“𝗦𝘂𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘆 𝘄𝗮𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘀.” 👀

𝘓𝘦𝘵’𝘴 𝘶𝘯𝘱𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘦𝘵 𝘥𝘳𝘢𝘮𝘢. The ribcage shields major organs and supports breathing mechanics, which makes elective removal purely for aesthetics a medical minefield.

Within reputable surgical practice, protecting that framework sits high on the priority list. Ultra-defined waistlines seen online usually come from strategic contouring around the torso – think targeted fat reduction across the waistline, careful sculpting around the mid-back and techniques that enhance the visual contrast between the waist and hips.

Internet myth: dramatic waistlines require skeletal surgery. Medical reality: intelligent contour design creates the magic while the body’s natural framework stays exactly where it belongs.

Instead of simply reducing fat volume, advanced contouring methods allow targeted shaping along natural muscle borders. That means areas like the midsection, waistline and back can be sculpted in a way that highlights the body’s natural structure while maintaining smooth transitions between zones.

The goal is always a body that looks naturally athletic – simply refined in the right places.

A 2024 study published in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery explored what contributes to 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘵, 𝘩𝘪𝘨𝘩-𝘲𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘧𝘢𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘧𝘢𝘵 𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘧𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨. The findings point to technique as the defining factor behind how well fat integrates and performs over time.

• 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆. The research highlights how gentle harvesting and thoughtful placement influence how fat settles and lasts.
• 𝗙𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. Scientific evidence supports using distinct fat forms for structural volume, refined contouring and skin quality, each selected with intention.
• 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗺𝘆 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆. Layering fat across specific facial planes aligns with natural facial movement and ageing patterns, supporting results that evolve gracefully.

This evidence-led approach guides how Dr Eva performs facial fat grafting – under general anaesthetic at Mediclinic Morningside, or in-practice for less invasive procedures.

Fat grafting rewards skill and exposes shortcuts fast. Every step affects how fat survives, settles and supports the face over time. 𝘚𝘮𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘦𝘤𝘩𝘯𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘱𝘴 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘶𝘯𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘤𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘴.

Five technique realities that determine facial fat grafting outcomes – and how Dr Eva approaches each one:
• 𝗙𝗮𝘁 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘆 𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲. Transferred fat survives by reconnecting to oxygen and blood flow. Rough harvesting damages cell walls early, which shortens longevity. Dr Eva uses gentle extraction techniques to preserve cell integrity.
• 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗱𝗲𝘀 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗳𝗮𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀. Refinement changes fat size and function. Different processing methods create fat suited to volume, finesse or skin-focused work. Dr Eva tailors preparation to match the exact facial goal before placement begins.
• 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴. Fat responds differently depending on where it sits. Deeper layers influence facial framework. Mid-level placement smooths transitions. Shallow layers affect fine detail. Dr Eva places fat across precise anatomical planes.
• 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗺𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗹𝘆. Fat cells rely on nearby circulation to settle in. Large deposits struggle to establish that connection. Dr Eva places fat in tiny, evenly spaced parcels so it integrates gradually and evenly.
• 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲. Injection pressure affects surrounding tissue and how fat disperses. Slow, measured delivery reduces stress and encourages smoother healing. Dr Eva uses controlled pacing to guide consistent integration.

Facial fat grafting is highly individual. Our practice offers specialist guidance to help you understand your options.

𝗡𝗮𝗻𝗼𝗳𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗻 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 💉

Through advanced processing, fat becomes ultra-fine and fluid, concentrating regenerative cells that interact directly with the skin. These cells 𝘴𝘶𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵 𝘤𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘢𝘨𝘦𝘯 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘵𝘺, 𝘤𝘪𝘳𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘶𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘸𝘢𝘭, which plays a key role in how skin looks and behaves over time.

Nanofat suits areas where skin quality is the priority. Under the eyes. Fine lines. Crepey or thinning skin. Instead of creating shape, nanofat supports smoother texture, improved elasticity and a more even tone as the skin renews itself gradually.

Nanofat is often used alongside other fat types in facial fat grafting, with each layer serving a different purpose.

That refinement matters because 𝘤𝘦𝘳𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘯 𝘧𝘢𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘴 𝘤𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘵𝘰𝘭𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘣𝘶𝘭𝘬. Regions like the under-eyes, perioral area and smile lines have thinner skin, constant movement and limited space, which means volume has to be precise to integrate well.

Because microfat is finer, it disperses more evenly and settles gently into tissue. This allows it to soften creases, improve transitions between facial areas and support delicate zones without changing expression or facial character.

The effect stays subtle and controlled, which is exactly what these areas require.

When macrofat is used in facial fat grafting, it’s placed deep in areas like the cheeks, temples and jawline to replace that lost support. Bringing volume back at this level restores balanced facial structure.

Cheeks feel more lifted. Hollow areas soften. The face looks more balanced and well-rested, without looking filled or altered.

A facelift focuses on lifting and repositioning the tissues of the lower face, improving jowls, mid-face laxity and overall facial contour. A neck lift, on the other hand, targets loose skin, muscle bands and fat beneath the chin and along the jawline.

Because the face and neck age together, 𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘢 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘪𝘮𝘣𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦. That’s why these procedures are commonly combined – the goal is harmony, not a “fixed” face with an ageing neck.

In certain cases, though, a neck lift alone may be appropriate. This usually applies when the face still has good skin quality and structure, but the neck shows early laxity or muscle banding. The decision always comes down to anatomy.

𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲. 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀. 🧡

In facial fat grafting, everything starts with your own fat. What changes is 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘧𝘢𝘵 𝘨𝘦𝘵𝘴 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘢𝘤𝘦. That’s what turns one source into three distinct tools, each used for a very specific purpose.

• 𝗠𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗮𝘁 keeps things structural. It’s processed in a way that holds volume and support, making it useful in areas where the face benefits from lift and contour.
• 𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗮𝘁 is all about control. It’s further refined, allowing for smoother placement and more detailed shaping where subtlety matters.
• 𝗡𝗮𝗻𝗼𝗳𝗮𝘁 plays a different role entirely. It’s filtered down to a fluid consistency and used for skin quality, helping improve texture, tone and vitality rather than volume.

For Dr Eva, knowing how to work with each type forms part of an anatomy-led approach to facial rejuvenation, where technique determines outcome.

Fat transfer involves moving fat from one area of the body to another, but not all transferred fat survives long term. After the procedure, 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘰𝘥𝘺 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘣𝘴𝘰𝘳𝘣𝘴 𝘢 𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘴 𝘪𝘵 𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘩𝘦𝘴 𝘢 𝘯𝘦𝘸 𝘣𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘴𝘶𝘱𝘱𝘭𝘺.

On average, a percentage of the transferred fat will survive permanently, while the rest is naturally broken down over the first few months. How much stays depends on technique, handling of the fat, blood supply in the area and individual biology.

Once the surviving fat settles, it behaves like fat anywhere else in the body – it can expand or shrink with weight changes. That’s why realistic expectations and precise technique are essential for consistent, natural-looking results.

Some influences emphasise structure, others restraint, longevity or softness. Over time, those perspectives are tested in real clinical practice, refined through outcomes and combined with a surgeon’s own judgment and anatomical understanding. That’s why two surgeons can perform the same procedure and deliver very different results.

Knowing a surgeon’s influences offers valuable insight into how they think – and why their results look the way they do.

With facial fat grafting, technique carries as much weight as intention. Fat behaves differently depending on how it’s harvested, processed and placed. Dr Eva works with small, strategic amounts, layering carefully to support facial structure and maintain balance.

The goal stays consistent – improve structure, soften transitions and preserve movement so results age naturally with you.
