A 2025 randomised controlled trial compared a ketogenic diet to a standard diet.

Same calories. Different outcome.

• ~12.4 kg lost on keto vs ~7 kg on a standard diet

Bobotie but make it low carb and still proper comfort food 😍

This one is rich, full of flavour and so easy to put together. Perfect for a family dinner or meal prep, and yes, that golden topping is everything.

Quick recipe:

Ingredients
• 2 tbsp coconut oil
• 1 onion, finely chopped
• 1 tbsp curry powder
• 1 tsp turmeric
• 1 tsp cumin
• 1kg beef mince
• 1 tsp salt
• ⅓ cup Chutney
• 5 eggs
• 1 cup buttermilk
• 4 bay leaves

Method

Preheat oven to 180°C
Heat oil and cook onion until soft
Add spices and cook until fragrant
Add mince and salt, cook until browned
Stir in chutney
Remove from heat and mix in 2 eggs
Transfer to a greased baking dish
Whisk 3 eggs with buttermilk, season
Pour over mince and top with bay leaves
Bake for 45 minutes
Serve with cauliflower rice or a simple salad.

7 years. 45kg down. Still going 🙌

I tried the AI skin analysis and it breaks your skin down into scores across different areas… pores, acne, redness, hydration, uniformity, translucency, sensitivity, eye area, pigmentation and fine lines.

But let’s clear this up properly, because these are the exact three things people still believe about keto:

1. “You’re going to gain all the weight back.”

Weight regain doesn’t come from keto. It comes from going back to old habits. Our weight is a symptom of our health. If we go back to eating the things that made us sick in the first place of course we will gain the weight back.

• Keto works because it helps control hunger, stabilise blood sugar, and improve adherence
• If you maintain the lifestyle, you maintain the results

2. “You need carbs to survive.”

You don’t.

Your body has two main fuel systems: glucose and fat/ketones.

When carbs are low, your body adapts. It produces glucose through gluconeogenesis and runs efficiently on ketones.

• There is no essential requirement for dietary carbohydrates
• Protein and fat are essential. Carbs are not

3. “Keto will give you a heart attack.”

This one refuses to die.

Well-formulated low-carb diets consistently show improvements in key risk markers:

• Lower triglycerides
• Higher HDL
• Improved insulin sensitivity
• Reduced inflammation

LDL can change, but context matters. When triglycerides are low and HDL is high, overall risk often improves.
