Does sleeping well really equal to self-care? When you get a good night's sleep, you may feel more energised and excited to take on the day. You'll feel more productive because sleep increases concentration, energy, and focus. It also boosts your immune system, helps prevent weight gain, increases heart function, improves your mood, and memory.
In our opinion, sleeping well is the most important part of self-care! 🥰

It's been found that when people are sleep-deprived, they are more inclined to keep a distance from others. The energy needed to interact on a social level is just too great for them, and so they don't want people in their space nor do they want to get touched. In turn, this makes them feel more lonely and experience social isolation.

If you find yourself struggling to get out into the world, make it a point to get more sleep by getting to bed earlier.

It's usually difficult to follow a healthy sleeping pattern when you live in a loud environment that constantly stimulates hearing. Luckily, the presence of white noise in your bedroom, such as the gentle whir of a fan or the low hum of an aircon, can help you sleep better in these situations.
If these sounds don't naturally occur in your bedroom or at the volume and intensity that can hush down disruptive sounds and lull you to sleep, a white noise machine can amplify them for restful sleep. 🔉

Do you have trouble falling asleep? It could be that one of these five bad bedtime sleeping habits are ruining your chances of good sleep before you even lie down. 😴

1. Sleeping with your device - your screen acts as a stimulant as opposed to helping soothe you to sleep, so it's always a good idea to put your phone away before you sleep.
2. Binge-eating before bed - your body needs enough time to digest all that food before you lie down, otherwise you might get heartburn or indigestion which can affect your sleep.
3. Too may nightcaps - even though alcohol can make you drowsy and promote sleep, it affects your ability to go into and remain in a state of deep, restful sleep.
4. Intense exercise before bed - intense exercise can increase your body temperature and trigger the release of endorphins, and in order to sleep well, your body temperature needs decrease before bed.
5. Succumbing to your inner night owl - even though you might think you can get a lot more done by staying up for that extra hour or two, your health may be negatively affected this way. The best thing for your health is getting into a good sleep routine.

Working out before going to bed has generally been discouraged because of the idea that it could make it more difficult to fall asleep when you exercise later in the day. However, it's been found that moderate-intensity exercise has no effect on your sleep if you do it at least one hour before you head to bed.

On the other hand, strenuous physical activities such as running, lifting heavy weights, or high-intensity interval training can sometimes have a negative effect on your sleep, although it usually varies from person to person. It's important to note that the best time to get active is the time that works best for you. 🏋️💤

While there isn't a lot of scientific research about the effects of sleeping n**e, some people say that sleeping without clothes on can improve health in many ways, including helping you fall asleep faster, improving your relationship, and promoting reproductive health.

Of course, some people may frown upon this, but we guess it's each to their own. 😜

Not sure what colour to paint your bedroom? 🤔

Your bedroom should have colours that help you relax. Opting for a cool colour (like your blues, greens or greys) can help reduce your heart rate, lower your blood pressure, and slow down respiration, while warm colours (like your reds, oranges or yellows) tend to do the opposite by increasing your heart rate, blood pressure, and deepening your respiration. This makes it difficult to relax.

This doesn't mean that you can't have bright and exciting colours in your room, though. It just means that you should try leaning towards cool colours as your primary tones.

How long you need to nap for can vary from person to person. If you're looking to reduce stress and fatigue, then a 30-45 minute nap should suffice. But shorter naps that don't go past 20 minutes are recommended if your goal is to wake up refreshed and attentive.

When you social detox, you no longer see stressful or agitating posts, and you no longer find yourself scrolling through social media until the early hours of the morning. Falling and staying asleep becomes easier, and getting to bed at a reasonable time becomes more possible. So if you feel like social media is a black hole that sucks up your time as well as your mental and emotional energy, then perhaps "unplugging" yourself from social media is just what you need.

If you have a clean room you're less likely to be stressed out by all the junk around you as you try falling asleep at night. A messy room can have an effect that clutters your thoughts, whether you intend for it to do so or not.

Exams coming up? Don’t be tempted to pull an all-nighter. While you’re sleeping, your brain makes strong neural connections between your existing memory and the latest information you’ve learned, which helps in remembering new material more efficiently. Without sleep, it’s hard to form any kind of memory. We say this is good reason to have a good sleep after your study session – even if it’s an afternoon nap. Help your brain retain that information!

Most of us prefer sleeping on our sides - and with good reason! Besides it being a more comfortable sleeping position, sleeping on your side relieves back pain, reduces the risk of snoring and sleep apnoea, and improves your brain health. Sleeping on your side helps you sleep more deeply, but it's not always for everyone. So if you're not feeling this sleep position, switch to another. And if you still experience discomfort, it's always best to consult your doctor.

This is because many people find that aging causes more difficulty in falling asleep, usually because of reasons related to stress and anxiety. They also find that they wake up more often during the night and earlier in the morning because they spend less time in deep sleep.
