ACE inhibitors ✨

Angiotensin 2 causes vasoconstriction and an increase in blood pressure, so ACE inhibitors block the conversion of angiotensin 1 to angiotensin 2. ACE inhibitors should not be taken with angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs).

Side effects include hypotension, taste disturbances, skin rash, angio-oedema and palpitations.

NSAIDs inhibit COX, resulting in anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic effects. COX-2 inhibitors spare the gastric mucosa but may increase cardiovascular risk due to imbalance between prostacyclin (vasodilator) and thromboxane (pro-thrombotic).

Adverse effects include gastritis, gastric ulcers, nephrotoxicity, sodium retention, hypertension, thrombosis and bronchoconstriction.
