Thank you to Female Entrepreneur SA for featuring my practice in May's edition!

Running a business definitely comes with challenges - most allied healthcare providers will agree it is not one of our typical inherent strengths! And so it is wonderful to be recognized for our work.

I am proud to introduce my new practice space in Parkview 💖 After a lot of thought and favorable turns of events, I have had the opportunity to move my practice to my home. I am so grateful for the Lord's favour over this endeavour. What a gift to be able to make my living while also keeping an eye on the garden, the cat, and the laundry!

I still provide home visits for anyone unable to leave their home, and for my clients based further out I still have my room at 2 8th Avenue, Rivonia.

Take a look at my website for details and updates of my practice! kimberleyjonesot.com

Thank you to my friends, family and colleagues who have provided so much support and practical help with the move and the adjustment.

As we march into 2025, cautiously optimistic, I encourage my clients, colleagues, and most certainly myself with the simple and perfectly eloquent words of Charlie Mackesy. No one speaks to the fragile yet determined soul quite like him, and I hope that the reader of this will take a little morsel of hope and magic for the new year from these images, as do I, every time, without fail.

Kim had the privilege of attending the Low Vision Matters conference from 9th to 12th September, in Sandton, JHB. We were honored to have Dr Prof Beth Barstow and Dr Jason Vice from the University of Alabama, and Wits' Dr Wendy Histed, providing evidence-based, up to date and relevant education on low vision conditions. Attendees also had the opportunity to view and practice using a variety of assistive technology for visual impairments, and network in a way only in-person events like this can offer. Kim looks forward to integrating the skills learned this week into her treatment of patients who suffer from this "invisible" condition.

This conference would not have been possible without the dedication and tireless work of Belinda Leibowitz, Hazel Sacharowitz and Karen Denton, who allowed us to enjoy a seamless, fun and very well-organised four days. Their dedication deserves (and did receive) a hearty round of applause.

Nelson Mandela Day Knitting Circle!

"It is in your hands to create a better world for all who live in it" - Nelson Mandela.

Today a group of women came together at our practice to share the message of kindness and giving, by spending 90 minutes creating a little gift of warmth. The squares will be donated to a local charity for blankets.

Thank you to everyone who joined today and contributed their time and talent!

"A single act of kindness can cause ripples of healing" - Anonymous

As our Mandela Day initiative, we look forward to hosting a knitting and crochet group to provide gifts of warmth to those in need. However, it is not just the recipients of the woolen items who will benefit. As Occupational Therapists, we never underestimate the impact of community, cohesion and acts of kindness on the healing process.

If you are interested in joining us, or would like to join remotely by donate a square, beanie, or any other woolen item, please contact Kim on 079 261 5238.

OT out and about! Often the best way to practice what we learn in OT is in real life. Today Kim went for coffee and milkshakes with her client who is currently re-learning money concepts - more than 10 years post-brain injury.

Kim spent a fascinating weekend upping her knowledge in chronic pain and stress, exploring how these interact through the neurological, immune, endocrine and gastro-intestinal systems. She looks forward to providing a more comprehensive and evidence-based service to clients suffering from chronic pain and other conditions which have been impacted by the imbalance between these remarkable body systems.

We are very excited to announce the opening of a new branch at Rivonia, JHB! Our office is set in a house surrounded by beautiful gardens, sharing the space with physios, speech therapists and biokineticists. This opens up a great opportunity to serve our clients requiring rehabilitation for whom our Parktown room is too far. Please share the good news, and contact us for more details!

When someone looks at a therapy activity like this, they may think, "aren't you just keeping the person busy - where's the skill in that?".
But OTs use their skill in activity analysis to select appropriate activities which provide the "just right challenge" to achieve therapeutic aims.
In this session, we combined our understanding of our client's interest in arts and crafts with a knowledge of their physical and cognitive abilities (both strengths and limitations) to select and structure an activity in which they could experience a positive result from their action which would foster improved self esteem and self efficacy (our therapeutic aims).
We think it's a little more than "just keeping someone busy!"😉
