We can be very quick to wash and dress newborns these days, but ideally you and baby should just be hanging out skin to skin for the first couple of hours - settling baby into their body, getting used to each other’s smell and establishing feeding.🤱

If mom is being cared for for any reason, then a birth partner can do skin to skin instead - it still has great benefits for baby 💜

This facility is so needed and it is such a waste to have it sitting waiting for approvals - families need this care ❤️

Last year the original founders of Genesis, along with a collaborative of midwives and doctors bought and renovated the much loved Genesis Clinic in Joburg🌀

Following positive engagement with the Department of Health and in line with the timeline given by them, we prepared with a full staff complement to launch in November of 2025 🙌

The Department has sadly spent much of the past three months dealing with public scrutiny around the Tembisa Hospital scandal and so have not proceeded with the inspection and licensing of new facilities.

We are so sorry for all the parents who had hoped to give birth here. We are here and ready to serve as soon as the Department gives us the go ahead. We urge those who can to keep the faith and to raise their voices as we ask those in power to engage once again and complete the process of allowing us to offer the standard of family centered, safe and economic maternity care that Genesis is renowned for 🌀

Babies come out in all shades of pink and purple, slippery and shiny, often covered in vernix and other fluids. It’s messy, it’s sticky, it’s exactly what newborn life looks like. No 'picture perfect babies' just tiny humans arriving into the world the way they are supposed to! 😄
