ποΈ Under-Eye Dark Circles
Dark circles are common β and they rarely have just one cause. Understanding the type is key to choosing the right treatment.
π Pigmented (PIH β Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation)
Often caused by inflammation, sun exposure, or genetics.
π Treated with brightening eye creams containing Vitamin C, Niacinamide, Retinol, and daily sunscreen (essential).
π©Έ Vascular
Due to thin skin revealing underlying blood vessels.
π Treated with caffeine-based eye creams to reduce puffiness and improve circulation.
𧬠Structural / Volume Loss
Loss of fat and collagen creates a shadowing effect.
π Managed with peptide-rich eye creams and retinoids to support collagen.
πͺΆ Thin Skin
Visible blood vessels and the underlying orbicularis oculi muscle, often appearing brown or red.
π§ Fullness / Puffiness
Commonly caused by fluid retention, allergies, or lack of sleep.
π Treated with caffeine eye creams, cold compresses, and hydrating eye gels.
βΌοΈ Shadowing (Hollowness or Fullness)
May be due to genetics, bone resorption, loss of cheek fat pads, flat cheekbones, deep-set eyes, or congenital under-eye fat loss.
β¨ Important to remember:
The most common cause of dark circles is mixed, usually involving a combination of pigmented, vascular, and structural factors β which is why treatment must always be personalised.
