💧🏡 Home Birth. Birth Pool. Calm Space. 🏡💧

Home birth offers the comfort of familiar surroundings, the freedom to move naturally, and the ability to create a calm, intentional environment.

A birth pool can help ease tension, encourage relaxation, and support your body as it works with each contraction.

And sometimes the most important element? Keeping the space quiet and the number of people around you to a minimum — protecting your focus, your hormones, and your sense of safety. 🤍

Thank you for this insightful reminder of how powerful a calm birth environment can be. ✨

🤍✨ Such a Thoughtful Gift ✨🤍

Receiving a beautiful, heartfelt gift from a client we delivered a few months ago truly means the world to us. It’s moments like these that remind us how special this work really is.

To be invited into such an intimate and life-changing chapter — and then remembered with such kindness — is an incredible honor.

Thank you for your thoughtfulness and trust. It’s families like yours that make what we do so meaningful. 🤍

🧠✨ Using Your B.R.A.I.N in Birth Decisions ✨🧠

Crediting the incredible for this powerful and practical tool 🤍

When making decisions in pregnancy and labour, use the B.R.A.I.N acronym to guide informed consent:

B – What are the Benefits?
R – What are the short- and long-term Risks?
A – Are there Alternatives?
I – What does your Intuition say?
N – What happens if we do Nothing for now?

It’s only truly informed consent when you understand all the information.

It’s your provider’s role to explain the benefits, risks, and alternatives — and to make recommendations.
It’s your role to make the final decision.
And it’s their role to respect it.

This framework is also a beautiful way to guide your research while preparing your birth plan. Knowledge builds confidence. 🤍

🌟 The Magic of Delayed Cord Clamping 🌟

This powerful photo captures one of our moms gently feeling the pulse in her baby’s umbilical cord — a beautiful reminder of the incredible connection between mother and child. 🤱💖

At M&V Midwives, we support delayed cord clamping — a gentle, evidence-based practice that allows the cord to keep pulsating before it’s clamped and cut. This short delay provides your baby with a final boost of oxygen-rich blood, iron, and essential nutrients from the placenta. ✨

🌿 Why consider it?
Delayed cord clamping can:
✔️ Boost iron levels
✔️ Support brain development
✔️ Improve circulation and transition after birth

It’s a small moment with a big impact — a final gift from you to your baby. 💝

🤍 A Special Message for Veronica 🤍

“I just want to thank you for helping us with Janeke’s birth.
It was such a wonderful experience.

Thank you for letting me be in control and making me feel so comfortable.

I couldn’t imagine a better way to end off my birthing journey.

P.S. Sorry it is a month later, but I am finally finding my rhythm with three girls.

Here are some birthing photos and Janeke’s one month old photo taken today. 🤍

Kind regards,
Lericia”

What a privilege it was for Veronica to step in and support this beautiful birth at Oxford. Being trusted to help a mother feel in control, safe, and supported is exactly what midwifery is about.

And finding your rhythm as a mama of three girls? That’s strength in its own right. 🤍✨

UPDATE

Thank you for all the support from our community! Yesterday we escalated our license process using the proper government pathways.

We were really pleased to receive a same day response and a commitment to have our paperwork processed in a two week timeframe.

We are grateful to the Department of Health and to everyone who is working to get Genesis over the line and operational 🌀❤️

🌿 A Message from Genesis Clinic 🌿

Last year, the original founders of Genesis, together with a collaborative of midwives and doctors, proudly bought and renovated the much-loved Genesis Clinic in Johannesburg 🌀

Following positive engagement with the Department of Health and in line with the timeline provided, we prepared with a full staff complement to launch in November 2025 🙌

Unfortunately, over the past few months the Department has been dealing with public scrutiny related to the Tembisa Hospital matter, and inspections and licensing of new facilities have not yet proceeded.

We are deeply sorry for all the parents who had hoped to give birth at Genesis. Please know that we are ready and waiting to serve as soon as approval is granted. We encourage those who are able to keep the faith and to raise their voices, as we ask those in power to re-engage and complete the process. This will allow Genesis to once again offer the family-centred, safe, and affordable maternity care it is known for 🌀

✨ M&V Midwives can’t wait to birth at Genesis soon — and to once again support families in this special space the moment the doors officially reopen. 🤍

✨ Hi, I’m Veronica — M&V Midwives ✨

We jumped on the viral cartoon trend, so here’s a little about me 🤍

💬 My favorite quote:
“Birth is an opportunity to transcend. To rise above what we are accustomed to, reach deeper inside ourselves than we are familiar with, and to see not only what we are truly made of, but the strength we can access in and through birth.”
— Marcie Macari

🌿 My go-to tip for expectant moms:
Epsom salt baths, tissue salts 8, and Rescue Remedy — especially helpful for heartburn, headaches, cramps, sleeplessness, and those general aches and pains.

🖊️ You’ll always see me with:
Pens and tissues. Always. In abundance.

🌸 How I recharge:
I’ve always loved nurturing in all its forms — from my years as a breastfeeding support leader with La Leche League and a wildlife rehab volunteer, to spending time in nature, gardening, knitting, sewing, woodwork, cooking, baking, and reading.

This work is my calling, and supporting women through birth remains an honor every single time. 🤍

✨ What Is Vernix — and Why We Don’t Rush to Wash It Off ✨

That soft, white, creamy layer you often see on newborn skin is called vernix caseosa — and it’s not something to remove in a hurry. It’s one of nature’s most beautiful protections. 🤍

🌿 Why vernix matters:
• Protects baby’s skin in the womb
• Acts as a natural moisturizer after birth
• Helps regulate body temperature
• Has antibacterial properties
• Supports skin healing and adjustment to life outside the womb

Instead of washing it away, we gently massage vernix into baby’s skin, allowing baby to absorb all those benefits during the precious first hours and days.

At M&V Midwives, we respect baby’s natural transition into the world — because sometimes, nature truly does know best. ✨

🌿 Conquering Birthing Fears 🌿

Feeling anxious about birth is completely normal — you’re not alone in this. At M&V Midwives, we believe fear softens when you feel informed, supported, and truly heard. 🤍

✨ Knowledge brings confidence — learning what to expect can turn fear into understanding.
✨ Open communication matters — sharing your worries with your midwife and support team can be incredibly freeing.
✨ Calm the body, calm the mind — gentle breathing, relaxation, and visualization help you stay grounded during labour.
✨ Support changes everything — the right people around you provide reassurance when you need it most.
✨ Trust your body — it was designed for this journey, and it knows what to do.

You are stronger than you realize, and you don’t have to do this alone. We’re here to walk beside you every step of the way. 🩷
