👶✨ Baby’s First P**p (Meconium): What to Expect ✨👶

Your newborn’s very first p**p is called meconium — a thick, sticky, dark green or almost black stool. It’s completely normal and a sign that your baby’s digestive system is working just as it should.

Meconium is made up of everything your baby swallowed in the womb — amniotic fluid, skin cells, and more. Most babies pass it within the first 24–48 hours after birth.

As feedings get established, their p**p will gradually change in color and texture — becoming lighter, softer, and more familiar. 💛

If your baby hasn’t passed meconium within the first two days, it’s always best to chat with your midwife or healthcare provider.

Early days come with lots of questions — and we’re here to guide you through every one. 🤍

Genesis Clinic is reopening and ready to welcome families once again. 💕

Here’s a first look at one of their beautiful private family rooms — complete with a calming water-birth tub, tranquil garden views, and a serene space designed to support a peaceful, family-centered birth. 🌿👶

And for added peace of mind, Genesis now offers a fully equipped, modern on-site theatre. Your safety — and your baby’s — is always our priority.

When your labour begins, your midwife will notify your OBGYN right away, keeping them fully informed as your labour progresses. This communication ensures your doctor is prepared well in advance should anything unexpected arise.

Throughout your labour, your midwife carefully monitors both you and your baby. If at any point she identifies indicators that a caesarean may be necessary, she will promptly escalate to the medical team. If your primary OBGYN is unavailable, one of our trusted associated OBGYNs will come to Genesis to perform the caesarean in our on-site theatre.

Whether your birth is natural, water-based, or requires medical intervention, Genesis Clinic is fully prepared to support the safest, most empowering experience possible. 🤍

🌟 Navigating the First Few Weeks at Home with Your Newborn 🍼💤

Congratulations on the arrival of your precious little one! As you embark on this beautiful journey of parenthood, here’s what you can expect during the first few weeks at home with your newborn. 💕

Feeding: Your newborn will need to feed frequently, usually every 2-3 hours, as their tiny tummies adjust to milk or formula. Whether you choose breastfeeding or bottle-feeding, it’s essential to ensure your baby is latching well and getting enough nourishment. Don’t hesitate to reach out to a lactation consultant or midwife for support if needed.

Sleeping: Newborns sleep a lot, typically 16-17 hours a day, but in short stretches. Expect your little one to wake up every few hours for feeding and comforting. Create a safe and cozy sleep environment, such as a bassinet or crib with a firm mattress and no loose bedding. Remember to place your baby on their back to sleep to reduce the risk of SIDS.

Bonding: Cherish these precious moments of bonding with your newborn. Spend plenty of time cuddling, talking, and engaging in skin-to-skin contact. These interactions not only strengthen your bond but also promote your baby’s development and emotional well-being.

Caring for Yourself: Amidst the joy and excitement of caring for your newborn, don’t forget to take care of yourself too. Get plenty of rest whenever possible, stay hydrated, and nourish your body with nutritious meals. Accept help from family and friends, and don’t hesitate to ask for support when needed.

Remember, every baby is unique, and there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to parenting. Trust your instincts, seek guidance from healthcare professionals when needed, and most importantly, cherish every moment with your precious bundle of joy. 💖 🌟👶💕

🌿 Understanding Newborn Weight Changes 🌿

It’s completely normal for babies to lose a little weight in the first few days after birth — and it’s one of the most common questions new parents have!

💧 Why does this happen?
Newborns are adjusting to life outside the womb. In the first 3–5 days, they can lose up to 7–10% of their birth weight due to:
• Passing meconium (their first stool)
• Adjusting fluid levels
• Learning to feed and regulate intake

🌸 When does baby regain the weight?
Most babies start gaining again by day 5, and are usually back to their birth weight by 10–14 days old.

🍼 How to support healthy weight gain:
• Feed on demand, not on a schedule
• Ensure a deep latch if breastfeeding
• Keep baby close — skin-to-skin helps regulate feeding and milk flow
• Track nappies (6–8 wet nappies daily after day 5 is a great sign!)

If you ever have concerns about feeding or weight, your midwife is there to guide you — every baby’s journey is unique 💕
