Skin-to-skin contact between a mother and her baby has numerous benefits! Letโ€™s talk about a few of them.

๐Ÿ’• Bonding: Skin-to-skin contact promotes a strong emotional connection and enhances the parent-child bond.

๐ŸŒž Temperature regulation: It helps to stabilize the baby's body temperature as the mother's skin adjusts to keep the baby warm or cool.

๐ŸŒˆ Calming and soothing: Skin-to-skin contact can have a calming effect on both the mother and the baby, reducing stress levels and promoting relaxation.

๐ŸŒŸ Improved breastfeeding: It encourages successful breastfeeding by stimulating the baby's instinctual feeding reflexes and enhancing milk production.

๐ŸŽ‰ Enhanced immunity: The transfer of protective bacteria from the mother's skin to the baby's skin helps strengthen the infant's immune system.

๐Ÿ’ค Better sleep patterns: Skin-to-skin contact has been linked with improved sleep quality and longer sleep durations for both the mother and the baby.

๐ŸŒฟ Regulation of vital signs: It helps stabilize the baby's heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood sugar levels.

โ˜บ๏ธ Emotional well-being: Skin-to-skin contact promotes feelings of security, comfort, and happiness for both the mother and the baby.

Remember, the benefits of skin-to-skin contact are not limited to just these. It is a beautiful way to nurture and care for your little one while promoting their overall well-being. Babies also enjoy skin-to-skin because it reminds them of the comforting environment they experienced in the womb. ๐Ÿ’›โœจ

โœจ Galactagogues are foods that aid in breast milk production. They are also used to treat low milk supply.

โœจ Galactagogues can take upto 5 days to work, and if there isn't a noticeable difference in milk supply after a week of consuming a certain food, it might be a good idea to try out another lactation superfood.

๐Ÿค Remember, our bodies are all different and not a one-size-fits-all. So what works for one person, might not work for another.

These are my top 5 favorite breastfeeding superfoods:

๐Ÿฅฃ Oatmeal
Apart from oats being PACKED with nutrients, they also contain saponins and plant estrogens which have an incredible effect on prolactin (hormone responsible for lactation) and the stimulation of the milk glands.

๐ŸŒพ Amaranth
Like oats, amaranth is another whole grain that increases breast milk production. It has a unique healthy blend of protein, fats, and carbohydrates and helps with postpartum hair loss as well.

๐Ÿ– Bone Broth
Bone broth is made by slow cooking chicken or beef bones for about 24 hours. The reason that it's so nutrient-dense is because this slow-cooking method
draws out the collagen, gelatin, and a range of amino acids that help with your immune system, your hair, skin, and nails, inflammation, and breast milk
production.

๐Ÿง€ Cottage Cheese
Cottage Cheese accelerates milk production as it is enriched with proteins, calcium, and vitamin A - all of which help heal the body postpartum and stimulate milk production.

๐Ÿฅœ Seeds & Nuts
Due to different seeds and nuts having unique nutritional makeups, it is advised to choose a variety of them to snack on. The most recommended seeds for lactation are flaxseeds, chia seeds, and h**p seeds. With nuts;
walnuts, almonds, cashews, and pistachio are all great choices.

*It is however important to note that breastfeeding is
a supply and demand process. ๐Ÿคฑ๐Ÿป

Happy feeding! ๐Ÿ’œ

Postpartum is a raw and tender time. A big chunk of postpartum planning is about momโ€™s needs and boundaries and a lot of the postpartum struggle [including mood and anxiety issues] stems from not getting those needs met and/or having your boundaries violated.

The best way to hold space for yourself and your baby during the fourth trimester is by setting boundaries. Never apologize for needing space. Youโ€™ve just given birth. You need privacy and space to heal. You need alone time with your baby, and โœจyour babyโœจ needs alone time with you.

Your family and friends are excited, and they want to show their support by being there for you. Tell them how much you appreciate them, but if you need some time before welcoming guests, let them know.

One way to prioritise your well-being and health after the birth of your baby is by creating a postpartum support plan that can help lighten the load and provide much-needed assistance.

๐Ÿฉถ Some things to consider in your postpartum support plan are food deliveries, setting boundaries, accessing resources, ensuring rest, and finding quality time for both you and your partner.

๐Ÿ•Food deliveries are an absolute lifesaver for new moms who are adjusting to their new role while also recovering from childbirth. By organizing meal trains or signing up for food delivery services, you can ensure that nutritious meals are readily available without having to worry about cooking or grocery shopping.

โš ๏ธ Setting boundaries is crucial during the postpartum period as it allows you to focus on healing and bonding with your baby. Communicate your needs clearly with family and friends, letting them know when visits are welcome and when you need space and privacy.

๐Ÿ“š Accessing resources is another important aspect of a postpartum support plan. Reach out to local organizations or online communities that specialize in providing information and assistance for new mothers. These resources can offer valuable advice on breastfeeding, self-care techniques, mental health support, parenting classes, and more.

๐Ÿ’ค Rest should be prioritized as much as possible during this period of recovery. Arrange a schedule with your partner or loved ones where they take turns caring for the baby so that you can catch up on sleep.

๐Ÿ’œ Lastly, finding quality time for yourself and your partner is vital to maintain a strong relationship amidst the demands of parenthood. Plan regular date nights or carve out designated periods where you can connect with your partner on a deeper level. This intentional bonding time not only strengthens your relationship but also provides an opportunity to recharge and reconnect as individuals.

27/08/2023

Morning sickness is a common condition experienced by 7 out of 10 pregnant women. It causes feelings of nausea, and sometimes vomiting, during the early stages of pregnancy. Despite its name, morning sickness can happen at any time of the day or night. It usually starts around the 6th week of pregnancy and may last until the 12th or 14th week.

The exact cause of morning sickness is not fully understood, but it is believed to be related to hormonal changes that occur during pregnancy. These hormones can affect the digestive system and make it more sensitive, leading to feelings of queasiness.

To manage morning sickness, there are several tips you can try:

๐Ÿ’— Eat small meals throughout the day instead of large ones.
๐Ÿ’— Avoid foods and smells that trigger your nausea.
๐Ÿ’— Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids.
๐Ÿ’— Get plenty of rest and take breaks when needed.
๐Ÿ’— Try ginger products like ginger tea or candies, as they can help reduce nausea.
๐Ÿ’— Consult with your healthcare provider if your symptoms become severe or persistent.

Remember, everyoneโ€™s experience with morning sickness is unique, so what works for one may not work for another. It's essential to listen to your body and find what methods provide relief for you personally.
