Patients deserve accurate, evidence-based information.

The claim that “1 in 4 women with breast implants develop autoimmune disease” is a misinterpretation of database research.
Large studies show a small relative association, not a 25% absolute risk.
Autoimmune diseases are rare and the overall likelihood remains low.

Systematic reviews demonstrate no consistent causal link.

Considering breast augmentation for the first time?

Please consider what will happen to your breasts with time! Not all patients with large implants placed at their primary surgery have favourable outcomes in the long term. I strongly recommend against using large implants at your primary surgery.

This patient is half way through her surgery. I have successfully restored her upper pole fullness using a much smaller implant placed in the subfascial position (above the muscle).

Unfortunately this has resulted in more scarring but her breasts are now back to their normal anatomical position.

Please ensure that your surgeon is a registered plastic and reconstructive surgeon. I always recommend a second opinion before embarking on any cosmetic surgery.

This patient had a bottoming out complication on the one side performed elsewhere. Whilst very uncommon this is a recognised complication.

Fortunately it can be corrected. I changed the pocket location of the implants from under the muscle to above the muscle (subfacial position) and re- constituted the pectoralis muscle back to the normal anatomical position.

Symmetry has improved and now there is NO animation of the breasts when flexing the pec muscles.

This procedure is not suitable for all patients and therefore a careful examination must be performed by a fully qualified plastic and reconstructive surgeon. Always obtain a second opinion if need be.
