So here we sit with the USA introducing Tariffs against most of it's trading partners, this of course includes South Africa. I am no accountant, but "Tariffs" is just what we know as import charges - surely that is going to effect the Americans in their own pockets - it may have a long term effect of "local is lekker" as we say in South Africa, but then they will have to get local companies up to speed to produce, in the meantime the USA Citizen will be paying more or the USA Companies will be making less as someone has to pay the import charges, and generally it's not the company supplying.

We need to work harder and fast to replace sales that may be lost, I feel for companies that may get shutout of that market due to them now being uncompetitive, but won't this act as protection for the USA based manufacturers, they can effectively add 25% to their margin and still come in cheaper than the imported products, unless the cost of manufacture is that much higher in the USA, if so they need to find a way to reduce those costs so that they can become competitive on the world markets. Again it is the American consumer that will suffer.

South Africa has a huge market on our doorstep, we are neglecting that because our infrastructure is in such a bad state of repair. I prefer to remain positive though, if we can fix our infrastructure, get our supply lines for agricultural and manufactured products booming in Africa, this will create jobs locally, jobs will bring down the crime rate and we get to make SA the best place to live and work.

An interesting read, but they keep telling us what we already know.

If ESKOM manages to keep the generation system going (all be it at only 55% to 60% of their capacity) then the transmission lines, the ones that deliver the electricity to your homes and businesses, are failing through either poor maintenance or overload from illegal connections or damaged due to theft.

For many years PowerMan has advocated that the user is responsible for the quality of power in their own building, this can be through a UPS, surge suppression or even voltage regulators, however now more than ever you are going to be responsible for generating a fair proportion of your own power requirements, either through generators or solar solutions.
