Kate Dodd Art Therapy

Kate Dodd Art Therapy My client-centred approach means that sessions tend to be non-directive and met at the pace of the client.

Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy using art materials and art making processes as a means to communicate and address difficult life transitions and emotional struggles that might relate to; relationships, trauma, disability, anxiety or depression, restoring emotional balance and leading to greater self-awareness. Art therapy in my practice is offered in an open, safe and empathic space to safely explore internal conflicts, improving the physical, cognitive, psychosocial and emotional health of clients of all ages. No previous experience or expertise in art making are required. I have worked as an art therapist for 5 years in both London and Johannesburg. I have a history working with children in schools, as well as adults in forensic psychiatry and neuro-disability. I have also worked in the NGO sector, focussing on community work with children on the autistic spectrum as well as parent/child groups. I currently have a general private practice in Johannesburg. After initially completing my BA Fine Arts (Hons) at Wits, I completed my 2 year masters training as an art therapist at the University of Roehampton in London. I continue my own practice as an artist and I am registered with the HPCSA.

It is in the space between inner and outer world, which is also the space between people-the transitional space-that intimate relationships and creativity occur. ― Donald Winnicott
