What is shadow work?

Your inner shadow is composed of parts of you that you subconsciously reject. We all have behaviours or traits that we see as struggles and don’t feel so confident about. Some of these traits may trigger or embarrass us, so we hide them from the outside world. These parts make up your shadow self, and it longs to be heard.

Working with your unconscious mind to uncover these parts of yourself that you repress and hide from yourself - which can include trauma or parts of your personality that you subconsciously consider undesirable - can assist in you overcoming self-sabotaging thoughts and behaviours. You can then show up confidently as your authentic self in the world and align with the things that are for your greatest and highest good.

The fight-or-flight response (also known as the acute stress response), refers to a physiological reaction that occurs when we are in the presence of something that is mentally or physically terrifying. We tend to normalize our experiences whilst growing up - in order to get through them… survive them. However, we program within ourselves, certain coping mechanisms in response to coping and moving forward. These help us survive in the moment but generally become mechanisms of self- sabotage in our adulthood. The key is to identify our unhealthy responses, find the root of where it comes from and then reframe a more healthier way of being and response in your present life.

Often, I find people struggle with the meaning of the relationships they have. If a relationship if causing you extreme struggle and pulling you off your centre - and even upon self-reflection of your own triggers within this relationship and shifting to more healthy behaviours and responses- this relationship is still having a negative impact - IT IS NOT FOR YOU.

Our life path is filled with lessons for our growth and enlightenment. We choose “when” we accept, embrace and go through the lesson or whether we resist. Our resistance only puts off and detours the lesson with it generally being shown to us with a stronger presence. Do you want to evolve and move higher - which equates to more connectedness with self, lightness, peace, happiness and joy. Don’t you want that? As we strive towards self-awareness and living consciously - it is important to reflect and assess areas of self and being that may be stunting our capacity for living in true love and joy. Our ego self is mostly steeped in the fear and survival conditioning whereas from our higher self - we are able to step back and have a higher view to understand, connect with and address our reactions/triggers in healthier ways.
