Resus in the air...

On Sunday the 29th of September, flight FA462 from Durban to Cape Town experienced an onboard medical emergency.

A passenger had gone into cardiac arrest.

Flysafair Media spokesperson confirmed: "Our crew responded promptly, adhering to their first aid training, and were assisted by a doctor who was on the flight. The situation required the flight to divert and land in Port Elizabeth, where paramedics were on standby. The passenger was then transported to a local hospital for further treatment."

Another source confirmed that the onboard AED was successfully used.

The Resuscitation Council of Southers Africa would like to commend everyone who were involved in this attempt to save a stricken passenger.

This is a remarkable success story where it is evident that being trained and being equipped with an AED can be life changing.
