Attention all sporty and creative peeps!

Volunteers needed for holiday workshops for Grade 10 and 11 Alexandra learners!

Twice a year the Ikusasa Lethu Community Programme organizes holiday programmes for an amazing group of kids from Alexandra. This year we have added an extra day so they can get a taste of some sports and cultural activities they have never had an opportunity to try!

If you are, or know anyone who is willing to donate some time between 08:30 and 13:00 on 7 July to run a roughly 90 minute workshop on whatever you love in the world of sports or culturals, please DM me or send an email to robyn.knowles@stmary.co.za.

Alternatively, if you have donations or would like to assist with food sponsorships for the day we would be equally grateful.

My Story

I have always been someone whom others have come to for help with their problems. When I was in school, I wanted to be a psychologist, but kept being told that I was not stable enough to be giving anyone advice. In retrospect, I think they may have been right. I struggled with depression and anxiety from the moment I hit puberty and that is a war that I was on the brink of losing for a very long time. I saw a psychologist and psychiatrist regularly (most of the time), but always felt like the scales could tip at any moment - sometimes they did.

I started taking a few courses, furthering my interests in healing the mind, body and spirit. These range from meditation and inner-child work to personal alchemy, soul psychology and even to massage and reflexology – and, most recently, recovery coaching.

After four years of teaching at a high school in Johannesburg (and learning) I left and began working at a shared Holistic Wellness Centre, while still taking additional courses (various forms and levels of Reiki and trauma counselling). At the beginning of 2018 I moved into my own offices and officially opened Robyn’s Nest, a diverse practice in which I can offer my full variety of services and maintain a steady client base. I have reached out into the communities, supporting domestic violence, addiction and su***de survivors. I enjoy helping others reach their goals and find their way. No matter how insignificant an issue may seem, if it feels like a weight in the back of your skull, it is something we can work out together. I gain a sense of fulfilment from working with people who are where I was at times, keeping it together on the surface with their skin silently crawling, dealing with the effects of mental illness in every moment.
