South Africa cannot afford to wait.

Universal health coverage is not in question. It is necessary, urgent, and fundamental to dignity.

The real challenge is not policy. It is delivering a health system that works today.

South Africa does not need to wait for NHI to improve access. The building blocks already exist.

There are reforms that can be implemented now:
•⁠ ⁠Collective tariff negotiations
•⁠ ⁠Modernised benefit design (PMBs)
•⁠ ⁠Low-cost benefit options (LCBOs)
•⁠ ⁠Stronger governance and system efficiency

Progress is possible. The time to act is now.
