**TABLES TURNED—POTGIETER STOPS THOMPSON IN 7**
In what turned out to be a breathtaking rematch from the first seconds of the opening round, Shaun “G-D’s Warrior” Potgieter regained the South African Heavyweight title when he stopped Chris “The Wolf” Thompson in the seventh round at The Big Top Arena at Carnival City.
After six rounds, Thompson was ahead on our unofficial scorecard going into the seventh round. The pattern was set early from the start as Thompson established his southpaw jab on Potgieter—he was faster down the pipe and outboxing him.
The third round saw Potgieter turn the tide when he started going to Thompson’s body and catching him with right hands.
Thompson regained momentum in the fourth and used his distance control well, peppering Potgieter with neat punches to the head and body. The fifth round was similar, but in the sixth it turned when Thompson got visibly wobbled by a right uppercut, while Potgieter applied constant pressure.
In the seventh round, Potgieter hit Thompson with a low blow. Thompson looked to the referee to complain, and with that moment allowing the referee to break them up, Potgieter quickly stepped off on an angle and threw a right hand. From there, Potgieter put on tremendous pressure and caught—and dropped—the defending champion with a short right uppercut. Thompson was hurt, got up, but with Potgieter smelling blood, he wasn’t going to let Thompson off the hook.
Potgieter was caught with a looping right hand for a second knockdown. Potgieter would not be denied as he went for everything, dropping Thompson for a third time, forcing a TKO while reclaiming the title for the second time.
