Visiting Witkoppen Clinic for the first time? Here’s a simple guide to help you understand the process:

All first-time patients are offered HIV testing as part of routine care.

🔹 𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴
Our team will assist you in opening a patient file so we can keep track of your medical history and care.

🔹 𝗣𝗮𝘆𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁
You will be required to pay the applicable consultation fee.

🔹 𝗩𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹𝘀 & 𝗨𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁𝘀
Your basic vitals (such as blood pressure, temperature, and weight) will be checked, along with urine tests.

🔹 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗻
You will then be seen by one of our clinicians for assessment, diagnosis, and treatment.

Did you know that 𝗧𝗕 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝘂𝗻𝗴𝘀? It can also affect other parts of the body like the spine, kidneys, and brain.

Here are some important facts about TB:

🔹 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗧𝗕 𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆
Some people have latent TB, meaning the bacteria are in their body but inactive. Without treatment, it can become active later.

🔹 𝗧𝗕 𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘄𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀
This includes individuals living with conditions like HIV/AIDS, making regular screening very important.

🔹 𝗧𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀
TB treatment usually lasts 6 months or longer, and it’s very important to take medication every day as prescribed.

🔹 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘀
This can lead to drug-resistant TB, which is harder and longer to treat.

🔹 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱
Opening windows and allowing fresh air in helps lower the risk of TB transmission indoors.

If you have symptoms like a cough lasting more than 2 weeks, night sweats, weight loss, or fever, visit your nearest clinic for screening.

🌟 Meet Thandi Mathebula 🌟

Thandi Mathebula’s journey at Witkoppen Clinic is a true reflection of dedication, growth, and a deep commitment to serving her community. Since joining the clinic in March 2017, Thandi has played an instrumental role in supporting vulnerable families in Diepsloot, bringing care, compassion, and reliability to every aspect of her work. Her impact is felt not only in the services she provides, but in the lives she touches daily through her willingness to go above and beyond.

She began her journey as a caregiver in Diepsloot, where she worked closely with community members, offering essential support and care. In 2018, her hard work and leadership potential were recognised, and she was promoted to EPWP Team Leader. In this role, she took on added responsibilities, including managing team timesheets and compiling EPWP reports.

By September 2019, Thandi stepped into the role of OVC Administrator, where she continues to play a vital role in ensuring the smooth running of administrative processes. She supports social auxiliary workers with resources and remains actively involved in the field, conducting home visits alongside the EPWP team. Her hands-on approach, combined with her administrative expertise, has made her an invaluable part of the Witkoppen team and a pillar of support within the community.

Witkoppen Health and Welfare Centre

Witkoppen Centre provides comprehensive, curative, promotive, and preventative primary healthcare in response to the changing needs of the community. We provide health and social services at a nominal cost inclusive of all medications to patients who can afford it, or free of charge to those who cannot. With the constantly increasing rural-to-urban migration patterns, the need for medical, psychosocial and social services provided at Witkoppen is always increasing. On average, Witkoppen provides comprehensive primary healthcare services to over 8 500 patients each month. In addition to the main facility situated at 105 William Nicol Drive, Fourways, there are three community-based satellite sites in the informal settlements of Msawawa, Thabo Mbeki and Diepsloot. Our mobile clinic and community health workers (CHWs) provide community HIV Testing Services (HTS) and linkage to care services, in addition to screening and treatment of both communicable and non-communicable diseases. We also conduct outreach events and health talks on a regular basis in these communities.
