We've come up with a new image that should be included in medical textbooks to help doctors learn what it means to have Down syndrome. What do you think?

Think about these traits and if they apply to you or other children you know. Of course they do! Children with Down syndrome are more like other children than they are different. So, let's stop highlighting all of their perceived negative traits and differences and start seeing their positive characteristics and how they are just like everyone else in so many ways.

When I child struggles with auditory processing, the classroom can become a rather scary place.

Where lengthy instructions are given verbally in a noisy environment. Where listening comprehensions feel like a futile task because the information can't go in fast enough. Where the next spelling word is given before the current one is fully processed and broken down into sounds.

But that's where speech-language therapists come in! We assist by teaching compensatory techniques, environment modification and building up auditory attention as well as auditory memory.

The Speak Life Speech Therapy Practice is located in Ferndale, 324 Cork Avenue. We share the premises with some pretty impressive ladies that we'll introduce later on.

We do school and home visits in the Waterfall and Rooihuiskraal areas.

Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, we have become quite proficient in providing teletheraphy. Hence "your couch" being an option for therapy!

Please feel free to give us a call on 083 391 8334 or email suzette@speaklifespeech.co.za if you wish to know anything more.
