The Law Society of SA made this week National Wills Week and participating attorneys are offering free drafting of basic Wills. What should you make of it?

✅ It's important for you to have (more) awareness of the risks and costs of dying without a valid will. If you have assets (like property) in your name, not having a valid will can be a very expensive mistake.

✅ Going through the process of drafting a will is always a beneficial process for you; as it "forces" you to take stock of your financial circumstances and deal with certain tough questions

But beware at all times from "free will" offer

🔻 There are smarter, cheaper ways to do estate planning than a will (and deceased estates fees and delays). For many property investors juristic entities like discretionary trusts and Pty's are a better solution to dealing with the question "who will benefit from the wealth that I have (contributed) to build through property?"

🔻 Executor fees are a big cash cow for many institutions and professionals. The same institutions and professionals that give you a "free" will that appoints themselves or business associates as the executors of your deceased estate...can you see my point?

By the way, property sales in deceased estates remain a fantastic opportunity to buy the right property, at the right place for those property investors with the necessary mix of knowledge, action and patience.
