🧬 You’ve heard the myth: s***m are warriors racing to the egg — only the fastest, strongest wins. Right?
Well… not exactly. That’s just one version of the story.

Here’s the real science — and it’s a plot twist:
She chooses. 💅

Recent research reveals that the egg isn't just sitting there waiting. She’s active. Powerful. Smart. And picky. 😏

When s***m get close, the egg releases a special fluid — a chemical message. It can attract some s***m… and ignore others. That means not every swimmer is welcome. It’s like nature’s VIP list. ✅❌

And get this — different eggs prefer different s***m. It’s about compatibility, not just speed.

Once one s***m makes it inside, the egg immediately locks the door — triggering a chemical reaction that prevents anyone else from getting in. No double-bookings allowed. 🚪💥

Meanwhile, your s***m (the smallest cell in the human body) is showing up at the doorstep of the egg (the biggest cell), hoping to be the chosen one.

So next time someone tells you it’s just a race…
Remind them: biology isn’t a competition — it’s chemistry. 💚

Science is still uncovering the full story of how life begins — but one thing is clear:
The egg isn’t passive. She’s running the show. 🥚✨

Understanding IVF: A Journey of Hope

IVF is a journey of hope, with medical marvel and emotional hurdles. Let us break down the process, but remember, the road to parenthood through IVF is unique for everyone.
-
Here's a simplified breakdown:

Consultation & Testing: Discuss your goals with a fertility specialist. Tests assess your reproductive health.

Stimulation & Monitoring: Medications increase mature eggs. Close monitoring tracks progress.

Egg Retrieval & S***m Collection: Eggs are collected using a guided needle. Your partner provides a s***m sample (or donor s***m is used).

Fertilisation & Development: S***m and eggs are combined for fertilisation (or ICSI is used). Embryo development is monitored.

Embryo Transfer: The most suitable embryo(s) are transferred into your uterus.

Pregnancy Test & Follow-Up: A test confirms pregnancy. Regular checkups follow a successful transfer.
-
IVF is a multi-step process with varying success rates. Emotional support and communication are key.

Our history since 1984

1984 - Founded by AW Loubser (Clinical Medical Technologist), during a meeting held between Drs Du Buisson & Partners (Now Ampath) and a few Gynaecologists who were faced with a legislation change dilemma. Donor s***m now had to meet certain requirements and the most pertinent was for it to have been kept in quarantine for a period of 6 months prior to being released or used. This very dilemma created the opportunity to set up a Private S***mbank who could manage this process and drive the risk factor away from medical practitioners.

1999 - AW Loubser at the time operated as sole proprietor and was trading as Cryobank - The Private S***mbank of South Africa. It had reached the stage where the next logical step was to formally register as a company. AW registered Androcryos CC in 1999. Th company provided the following main products and services: -

  • Andrology laboratory

  • Semen Analysis
