Victim Support Unit Mondeor Sector 1 Johannesburg South Africa The VSU provides emotional support and practical help to victims of crime on a FREE and CONFIDENTIAL basis.

Serving the communities Bassonia, Glenvista, Glenanda, Mulbarton and Liede en Vrede Trauma has become a daily occurrence in the lives of many South Africans. People are frequently exposed to trauma such as muggings, car hijackings, armed robberies, rape, assault, vehicle accidents, burglaries, suicides or natural disasters. The Victim Support Unit (VSU), a division of the local Community Policing

Forum (CPF), provides emotional support and practical help to victims of crime on a free and confidential basis. Members of the VSU are all volunteers – people who live in the community and want to make a positive difference while fighting the effects of crime. We are not part of the police or justice system and victims do not have to report the crime in order to receive our support. A common response after a traumatic event is the feeling of loss of control over the victim’s own life. The debriefing process that the VSU follows, is designed to enable the victim to re-experience the incident in a controlled and safe environment in order to make sense of and become reconciled to the traumatic incident. Through this process, the traumatic experience can be brought to a conclusion.

Approaching flooding roads can be hazardous, and it's essential to exercise caution to ensure your safety. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to approach flooding roads:

*Before You Approach*
1. *Check for flood warnings*: Monitor local news, weather reports, and traffic updates for flood warnings and road closures.
2. *Plan an alternative route*: If possible, choose a different route to avoid flooded areas.

*Approaching the Flooded Area*
1. *Slow down*: Reduce your speed to match the road conditions.
2. *Use low gear*: If you're driving a manual transmission vehicle, use low gear to maintain control.
3. *Avoid hard braking*: Sudden braking can cause skidding on wet roads.
4. *Keep a safe distance*: Maintain a safe distance from other vehicles to avoid splashing water and reduce the risk of aquaplaning.

*Assessing the Flooded Area*
1. *Stop and observe*: Stop at a safe distance from the flooded area and observe the water level, current, and debris.
2. *Check for depth markers*: Look for depth markers or signs indicating the water depth.
3. *Avoid entering fast-moving water*: If the water is moving quickly, it's best to avoid entering the flooded area.

*Crossing the Flooded Area*
1. *Enter slowly and carefully*: If you decide to cross the flooded area, enter slowly and carefully, keeping a steady pace.
2. *Avoid sudden movements*: Sudden turns or braking can cause loss of traction or aquaplaning.
3. *Keep your vehicle in the middle of the road*: This can help you avoid deeper water and debris.
4. *Test your brakes*: After crossing the flooded area, test your brakes to ensure they're functioning properly.

*Additional Safety Tips*
1. *Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters*: Floodwaters can be contaminated with sewage, chemicals, and other hazards.
2. *Keep an emergency kit in your vehicle*: Include items like a flashlight, first aid kit, and snacks in case you become stranded.
3. *Stay informed*: Monitor local news and weather reports for updates on the flood situation.

Remember, safety should always be your top priority when approaching flooding roads. If in doubt, it's best to err on the side of caution and choose an alternative route.

Did you know that approximately 1 in 6 women and 1 in 17 men have experienced stalking at some point in their lives? 😔 Stalking is a serious issue that often goes hand in hand with domestic violence. In fact, nearly 70% of female homicide victims were stalked by their former partners.

It's crucial to raise awareness about these alarming statistics and support those affected by stalking and domestic violence. If you or someone you know is experiencing this, remember that help is available. 💜
