Optometry is understated as a primary care medical practitioner.

We are trained to detect metabolic disorders, as well as neurological problems and many other medical issues that show up alongside headaches and poor vision; and don’t underestimate what a long, in-depth questioning case history can reveal to us that you are unaware of.

I’ve had the privilege of diagnosing many different medical and neurological conditions and supported patients getting medical care sooner than they would have.

At the very least, PLEASE have regular ANNUAL check ups to make sure you aren’t developing eye conditions that could be reversed or treated.

And especially for you, who think you’re winning by buying over the counter reading specs and not having check ups, you’re not winning. I’ve seen so many patients with lost vision due to disease because they figured they were fine because the readers worked.

Take care of you, make good choices.
All the best,
Bev Milun

Mmhmmmm. But much younger patients also sleep with them and accidentally have them in and slipping to the back of the eye sac… this lady got away with very little consequence… that seldom happens šŸ™ please be respectful of contact lenses, they’re medical devices, they need to be fitted and chosen properly by a registered optometrist and used according to the specifications.

Blessings for a great 2025 of perfect vision

Brian Sneag was not a man, he was a mountain in his life and in the Optometry world of Southern Africa. I was privileged to know him and speak with him from time to time and I will miss his
wisdom and perspective on the life and plights of optometrists navigating the medical and societal world. šŸ™

May his Dear Soul Rest in Peace and May his family know the comfort afforded them amongst each other, from all of us and all of his people šŸ™

Blessings always,
Bev Milun

What a privilege clearer vision is… please make sure an optometrist with a specialized interest in PAEDIATRIC OPTOMETRY checks your children’s vision… at the very least, for the FIRST time, between 3 and 5 years of age…

REMEMBER, it’s not your role to know if both eyes work well, if both eyes work as well as each other…. Or how your baby sees on screens or books compared to the TV… it’s not your role…

This one made us feel good. Real good...

Thank you so much for the beautiful thoughts, blessings and messages šŸ™ I was privileged to have an exquisite day celebrating aging gracefully šŸ™

Sharing and social media have not been my strong suit, but just like cooking, I’m happy to begin at level zero and learn how, or at least be willing to BEGIN AGAIN…

This is one of the more poignant and beautifully put ā€˜coming-of-age’ writings that I have had the privilege to read in a very long time…

As it mirrors me, in this moment, in my healing, strengthening, coming-of-this current age-and-emotional-developing space, may it also have value for you šŸ™

Always overcoming and becoming,
With gratitude,
Bev Milun

There comes a time in the life of a woman
When she discards her old ways like tossed shoes in the garbage
When she shreds her list of ā€œshouldsā€ & obligations & when impossible expectations are burned in an incinerator

There comes a time in the life of a woman
When the approval of others once jewels now turn to pennies in her sock
When the hunt for another is now replaced by a hunt for herself & when parental tentacles of tradition no longer define her truth

There comes a time in the life of a woman
When her desire to fit in with the crowd dissolves
When her manic compulsion to be perfect vaporizes & when her obsession to be voted popular eviscerates

There comes a time in the life of a woman
When she simply says ā€œno moreā€
When facade, artifice, & guile leave her nauseated & when righteousness, dogma, & superiority repulse her

There comes a time in the life of a woman
When she no longer fears conflict but faces it boldly like a lioness
When she guards her authenticity as fearlessly as she guards her babies & when she drops the role of savior knowing she can only save herself

There comes a time in the life of a woman
When she no longer cowers in the shadows of her unworthiness
When she no longer plays small so others can feel big & when she swaps the role of victim for the role of cocreator

There comes a time in the life of a woman
When she unabashedly & boldly occupies her ultimate sovereignty
When she finally feels ready to claim her space in the world & when she redefines compassion as unequivocal self-love

There comes a time in the life of a woman
When she finally releases her childlike dependencies on others
When she dares to rewrite a new mandate of living for herself
One that says
I release unworthiness & fear
I divorce servility & passivity
I divest inauthenticity & enmeshment
I end the pretense of being someone I am not

And from now on I declare
I will ascend into my highest power
I will embrace my greatest autonomy
I will celebrate my deepest worth
I will embody my fiercest courage & manifest the most authentic me
The time is now
I am ready
To awaken into my renaissance

IT’s MYOPIA AWARENESS WEEK!!! True story!

Myopia (Short-sightedness) is one of the types of vision issues that make it difficult to see at far but easier to see close to you… in children, my specialized interest is in Myopia Control, trying to be making it possible to play sport and socialize without prescription specs on for as long as possible…

I’ve done this with countless children in the past 30 years, including my son… He can STILL read signs at reasonably far distances, even though he has tended TOWARDS, being short-sighted, since he first pulled the screen closer to him to play on…. At four-years old… More about that soon šŸ‘€

Yours in the pursuit of effortless vision..
