ASMR!
What is AMSR - according to WIKIPEDIA is "Auto Sensory Meridian Response, which is a tingling sensation that typically begins on the scalp and moves down the back of the neck and upper spine. A pleasant form of paresthesia, it has been compared with auditory-tactile synesthesia and may overlap with frisson."
OK a lot of unusual phrasing there for some folks (including me).OK so lets break this down - we will focus on the first part "tingling sensation"
How many times have heard amazing music or vocalist and then hairs on your neck stand up or you feel that tingling sensation, you get goosebumps. Or a loved one touches you softly and you feel that energy connection to cause a tingling sensation through your body. Some are especially sensitive to this behind the ears, on the neck, inside of the elbow and behind knee, as a few examples. The way I see it, this is an energy connection as well as an audio or sensory stimulus
On You Tube there are many ASMR videos now, some are purely sensation based, while others are taking further and s*xualising it. ASMR in its purest form seem to utilise soft spoken word, visualisations of touch, and it might or might not include soft relaxing music in background
The auditory stimulous comes from hearing someone run their finger over nylons, or the click of a snap clip on a blouse, hearing this sends a signal to the brain and they close their eyes and sense the excitement of hearing that - thus causing a tingle
It is a "Feel Good" sensation
Some guys get excited hearing a roaring V8 motor, many women sense something (motherly instinct maybe) when they hear a baby giggling and gurgling. Some feel relaxed when they hear a soft breeze through tree tops, or rain pitter patter on the ground accompanied by the unique fresh smell of first rainfall. Some listen to an old song and it takes them back in time to when they were younger and memories (of smells and sensations of that time) flood their entire being and they smile
Now some ASMR therapist use sound and soft voice to calm their clients - help them sleep, they might use other sounds and soft spoken words to awaken s*xual energy in their clients. Some use specific sounds to awaken s*xual energy and arousal combined with key words and phrases. For example they might whisper "can you hear my finger slowly and gently touching my nylons, now imagine you are touching and gently sliding your finger over my nylons as you hear this". Others might gently scratch the lace of a bra, pop open clasps of a top as if they are un******ng. And this is where there is a difference of opinion, some say this trivialises and s*xualises ASMR. But we must ask - what is the need of our client, what do they need to address and heal. If it is lack of libido then I would agree that using certain words, phrases and sounds to awaken those s*xual energies is required
ASMR can be used for different needs - some prefer to keep it simple, almost innocent while others have made it more blatantly s*xual. I have seen a vast number of these videos, some might find them strange or uncomfortable, some might find them relaxing, and some might be excited by the cruder more s*xual content of some. The voice used in these videos or real life therapy sessions is always soft, almost inaudible - once could compare it to subliminal messages
Another aspect of ASMR is Role Play - where the guide or therapist speaks to you to calm you, help you focus and then she seems to reach toward you on screen and says she is massaging your ears, or your neck. On screen you see her reach toward you as if she is doing this. She might even lean to one side as if to whisper in your ear. All the time while using positive affirmations to help you and guide you
I have used ASMR in the past with some of my clients. I use it as a tool to relax and prepare client for massage and healing, so they are more receptive to energy work, then can feel and sense their awareness being heightened. With this awareness they allow energy to flow more freely, they relax deeper into the physical massage. My method is to allow the client to rest, guide them with breathing so their relaxation is deeper. Then I cover their eyes and place headphones on them. The music that is chosen takes them into a safe space where they are able to trust, feel, and explore. Once i see their heartbeat and breathing regulate to a slower pace then I begin with soft touch. This is intermittent and not constant massage - which will follow after ASMR. At times I might use a mic and speak softly so they hear my voice in the back ground of the music
There have been times I have used similar methods while talking to a client on phone, guiding them or teaching them. Using a soft voice and music
It is an amazing tool
Something to consider to help with anxiety or sleeplessness, or to enhance your energy
