Continuing Professional Development isn’t just about learning, it’s a key part of protecting your right to practise.

Healthcare professionals registered with the HPCSA are required to maintain a certain number of CPD points. Falling short of these requirements can lead to serious consequences, especially if you are selected for an audit or reported for non-compliance.

In these cases, you may be asked to provide proof of your CPD activities. If you’re unable to do so, it can result in penalties, additional requirements, or even suspension in more serious situations.

Staying up to date with your CPD ensures that you are meeting the standards expected of your profession, while also protecting your licence and reputation.

It’s not just about ticking boxes, it’s about maintaining accountability, credibility, and peace of mind in your practice.

Online learning has become an essential part of continuing professional development. It offers flexibility, accessibility, and the ability for healthcare professionals to learn at their own pace.

But for an online course to truly add value, it needs to be properly accredited.

At 360 CPD, we assist with accrediting e-learning platforms, digital modules, and structured online courses so that the learning provided translates into recognised CPD points. We ensure the content, outcomes, and assessment components meet the required standards for professional accreditation.

The result is a digital learning experience that is not only informative, but formally recognised as part of ongoing professional development.

Every year, as December approaches, many healthcare professionals suddenly realise they still need several CPD points before the cycle closes. This last-minute rush often leads to unnecessary stress and limited learning options.

The best approach is to spread your CPD activities throughout the year rather than leaving everything to the final months.

Here is a simple way to stay ahead:

• Check your current CPD balance early in the year so you know how many points you still need.
• Plan key activities in advance, such as conferences, workshops, or accredited webinars.
• Keep your certificates organised in one place so they are easy to access if needed.
• Aim to earn points steadily, rather than trying to collect them all in November and December.

A little preparation can make the entire CPD cycle feel manageable, allowing you to focus on meaningful learning rather than racing against the clock.

Workshops are one of the most effective ways for healthcare professionals to learn. They encourage hands-on participation, practical skill development, and meaningful discussion.

But if the session isn’t accredited, attendees may miss the opportunity to earn CPD points for their time and effort.

That’s where 360 CPD comes in.

We guide organisers through the accreditation process so that your workshop meets the necessary professional standards and qualifies for recognised CPD points. From structuring the learning outcomes to ensuring the correct documentation is in place, we help turn your session into a formally recognised learning opportunity.

So while your attendees focus on developing real-world skills, you can be confident the accreditation is taken care of.

Many healthcare professionals feel anxious when they hear the word audit, but a random HPCSA CPD audit is simply a way to ensure practitioners are maintaining their continuing professional development as required.

If your name is selected, the HPCSA will usually contact you via email or formal letter requesting proof of your CPD activities for a specific cycle. You’ll typically be asked to submit documentation such as:

• CPD certificates from accredited activities
• Proof of attendance for courses, workshops, or conferences
• Evidence of any additional learning activities you have completed

You will normally be given a timeframe to submit these documents, allowing you time to gather the necessary records.

The key is organisation. Healthcare professionals are responsible for keeping their own CPD records and certificates for the required period in case they are ever selected for review.

While audits can feel intimidating at first, most practitioners find that the process is straightforward when their documentation is well organised and easy to access.

Not every medical course looks the same. The format, audience, and learning objectives can vary widely from one programme to the next.

That’s why accreditation should never follow a rigid, one-size-fits-all formula.

At 360 CPD, we take the time to understand the structure of your event or course before guiding the accreditation process. Whether you are planning a focused workshop, a multi-day conference, or a specialised training session, we ensure the accreditation pathway aligns with your educational goals and meets all required professional standards.

The result is a process that feels structured, supportive, and aligned with the learning experience you want to deliver.

As many healthcare professionals move into part-time work or begin transitioning toward retirement, a common question arises: Do CPD requirements change?

In most cases, CPD obligations remain the same for registered practitioners, regardless of whether they are working full-time, part-time, or only practising occasionally. As long as you remain registered with the HPCSA, you are generally expected to continue meeting the required CPD point requirements within the relevant cycle.

This is because CPD exists to ensure that all registered practitioners maintain up-to-date knowledge and professional competence, no matter how frequently they practise.

That said, practitioners who fully retire and choose to de-register from the HPCSA are no longer required to maintain CPD points. Some professionals, however, choose to remain registered in order to stay involved in the profession, consult occasionally, or maintain professional standing.

The important thing is understanding how your registration status affects your CPD responsibilities so that you can plan your learning activities accordingly.

When people hear “ethics CPD,” they often think of legal updates or disciplinary case reviews. While those do count, ethics education is much broader — and far more practical — than many realise.

Ethics CPD focuses on how healthcare professionals think, decide, and act in real-world situations.

Examples of ethics-related CPD activities include learning around:

• Patient confidentiality and data protection
• Professional boundaries and conduct
• Informed consent and patient autonomy
• Cultural sensitivity and inclusive care
• Ethical decision-making in complex or high-pressure situations
• Communication, professionalism, and accountability
• Managing conflicts of interest

These topics are central to ethical practice and patient trust — not just compliance.

Ethics CPD isn’t about ticking a box.
It’s about strengthening judgement, integrity, and professionalism in everyday healthcare environments, in line with expectations set by the HPCSA.
