The government has promised to prioritize schoolchildren's health by implementing the School Health Screening Program. The initiative offers fundamental health screenings to students in schools located in priority health districts. These include educational institutions located in places where access to medical care is least likely.

Basic health screenings are carried out by the Department of Health in collaboration with the Department of Basic Education - The programme offers a comprehensive and integrated package of services including sexual and reproductive health services for older learners. This is carried out in areas that have identified as priority health districts, and that are least likely to have access to health care services.

The overall objective of the school health programme is to ensure that every child is as healthy as possible so that they can obtain the full benefit from their education.

Biokineticist and School Health:

As Biokineticists, we can promote school health through several modalities.
- Being actively part of the pupil’s physical activity habits, by teaching them the benefits of being physically active as well as the negative effects of being physically inactive.
- We can teach them how to improve their physical activity habits by giving them programmes to complete each week/month etc.
- We can teach them about posture and what it should look like. As well as the negative effects of incorrect posture - especially when they are carrying heavy school bags.
- Biokineticists can also be part of the schools’ sports teams - teach them correct warm-up sequences and provide effective rehabilitation.
