Ozone in water treatment

Ozone has advantages and disadvantages over chlorine in water treatment. The only disadvantage is that water treated or disinfected with ozone will be subject to recontamination within half an hour of being exposed to ozone as ozone has only a short half life. However being as ozone is 1.5 times stronger than chlorine and works 3000 times faster in its oxidation capabilities and that it is also able to oxidise polluting metals such as iron and manganese it will be favoured over chlorine in pre treatment and mid treatment. Chlorine can then be used for residual protection in reservoirs or reticulation systems
