“Wait… I came here for treatment. Why am I running?!”

One of the most common looks we get in the practice 👀

Yes… sometimes we make you run on a treadmill.

Not because we enjoy watching you sweat.
Not because we secretly run a bootcamp.
And definitely not for entertainment purposes (although the facial expressions can be impressive).

We do it because pain doesn’t always show up on the treatment bed — it shows up in movement.

That knee that “only hurts sometimes”?
That calf that “just feels tight”?
That hip that “acts up on longer runs”?

It often reveals itself when you actually… run.

The treadmill helps us:

✔️ Assess biomechanics
✔️ Spot asymmetries
✔️ Analyse cadence and loading patterns
✔️ See how fatigue changes your movement

Because treating a runner without watching them run is like fixing a golf swing without seeing the swing.

Don’t worry — we’re not trying to break you.

We’re trying to get you back to running without feeling like your legs are negotiating a ceasefire agreement halfway through. 🏃‍♂️

Assessment first. Smarter rehab next.

Why External Rotation of the Shoulder Matters

External rotation is the movement of rotating your arm outward — and it plays a crucial role in shoulder health and performance.

Strong, controlled external rotation:

✔️ Keeps the shoulder joint stable
✔️ Reduces strain on the front of the shoulder
✔️ Supports overhead and rotational movements
✔️ Helps prevent impingement and rotator cuff overload

It’s especially important for desk workers, gym enthusiasts, and overhead athletes — including golfers.

Limited external rotation isn’t always a flexibility issue. More often, it’s a strength and control problem involving the rotator cuff, scapula and even thoracic spine.

Stretching alone won’t fix it.
Strength and coordination are what make the difference.

And if you’re a golfer — limited external rotation might not just cost you shoulder comfort… it might cost you distance off the tee.

Because sometimes it’s not your driver’s fault. It’s your shoulder 😉🏌️‍♂️

Foam rolling is one of the simplest tools you can use to support recovery, mobility and performance — but only if you understand how and why to use it.

Here’s what you should know 👇

What is foam rolling?

Foam rolling is a form of self-myofascial release. It applies sustained pressure to muscles and surrounding connective tissue to help reduce tension and improve movement quality.

It’s not about “breaking up knots.”
It’s about improving how your nervous system allows the muscle to move.

What are the benefits?

✔️ Reduces muscle tightness and post-exercise soreness
✔️ Improves short-term range of motion
✔️ Enhances warm-up when used before activity
✔️ Supports recovery between training sessions
✔️ Helps you become more aware of restricted areas

For our sports and active patients, it’s a great adjunct to rehab and performance programmes — not a replacement for strength work or proper mobility training.

When should you foam roll?

Before training:
Use slow, controlled passes (30–60 seconds per muscle group) to prepare tissues for movement.

After training:
Roll tight areas gently to support circulation and recovery.

Common mistakes we see:

❌ Rolling too fast
❌ Holding your breath
❌ Rolling directly over joints
❌ Spending 10 minutes on one painful spot
❌ Using it instead of addressing the root cause of pain

If foam rolling is excessively painful, you’re likely using too much pressure. Discomfort is okay — sharp pain is not.

Remember:

Foam rolling is a tool.
It works best when combined with targeted strengthening, mobility drills, and a clear rehabilitation plan.

If you’re unsure which areas to roll — or whether you should be rolling at all — a proper assessment makes all the difference.

Move better. Recover smarter. Perform stronger.

⛳ Proud to Support the Pros at the SDC Open at Zebula Golf Estate & Spa

Our sports physio team had the privilege of working at this incredible event, helping players stay mobile, strong, and competition-ready throughout the tournament week.

From early morning prep sessions to post-round recovery, we were there to manage load, optimise movement, and keep swings flowing smoothly under pressure. Tournament golf demands precision and resilience — and we love being part of the team behind the team.

Proud to represent our practice in a high-performance environment and bring that same level of care back to every athlete we treat.

⛳ Proud to Be on the Ground at the Durban Open**

Our sports physio team had the privilege of working courtside (or rather, course-side!) at the Durban Open this year — supporting elite golfers through warm-ups, recovery sessions, and everything in between.

Tournament golf demands precision, power, and resilience. From managing spinal rotation and shoulder load to keeping hips mobile over long rounds in the heat, we were there to help players stay sharp and swing freely.

We’re incredibly proud to serve at events where performance matters — and just as committed to bringing that same level of care back to every patient in our practice.

Move well. Play better. ⛳💪

⛳ Proud to Be Part of the Action at the South African Open 🇿🇦**

There’s something special about being behind the scenes at one of South Africa’s premier golfing events.

Our team of sports physios had the privilege of working at the SA Open, supporting some of the country’s top professionals as well as international players competing at the highest level. From early-morning mobility prep to post-round recovery sessions, we were there to help athletes perform at their peak — and stay there.

Tournament golf places unique demands on the body:
• Repetitive rotational stress through the spine
• High load through the lead hip and shoulder
• Long hours on the course
• Mental focus under pressure

Our role?
✔️ Keeping swings smooth
✔️ Managing niggles before they become injuries
✔️ Optimising mobility and control
✔️ Supporting recovery between rounds

At this level, small physical improvements can make a big difference on the leaderboard.

We’re incredibly proud of our team for representing our practice in such a high-performance environment and grateful to work alongside world-class athletes who trust us with their bodies.

High performance isn’t only for tour players — it’s for every golfer who wants to move better, feel stronger, and play pain-free.

If you’re ready to elevate your game, we’re here to help.

🤝 More Than Treatment: Communication That Heals

At our practice, we believe physiotherapy is not just about exercises, manual therapy, or machines. It’s about understanding, connection, and clarity.

When you walk into our rooms, you deserve to know:
• What is causing your pain
• What it means for your body and your goals
• How we are going to treat it
• What you can do to recover and stay strong

We take the time to explain your diagnosis in simple, clear language—because when you understand your body, you feel more in control, less anxious, and more motivated to heal.

Your questions matter. Your story matters. Your goals matter.

At Sports Physios Inc., you’re not just a diagnosis—you’re a person, and we’re on this journey with you every step of the way.

🏌️‍♂️ The Moment a Golfer Gets Cleared to Play Again…

There are few things in life that make a man happier than hearing:
👉 “Yes, you can start playing golf again.”

Suddenly:
• The swing is smoother
• The handicap is definitely improving
• And the tee time is already booked 😋

At Sports Physios Inc., we love seeing that first smile when golfers get back on the course—safely, pain-free, and stronger than before.

If an injury is keeping you off the fairway, we’ll help you get back to bombing drives and blaming the wind for missed putts 😉

Thoracic Mobility: The Hidden Key to Better Movement & Less Pain

Did you know that stiffness in your upper and mid-back (thoracic spine) can lead to neck pain, shoulder injuries, and even lower back problems?

Your thoracic spine is designed to rotate, extend, and flex—especially important for athletes and patients who run, lift, swing, throw, or sit for long hours. When this area becomes stiff, other joints (like your shoulders and lower back) are forced to compensate, increasing your risk of injury.

At Sports Physios Inc., we assess and treat thoracic mobility to help you:
✔ Improve posture
✔ Increase performance
✔ Reduce pain and stiffness
✔ Move more efficiently
