🤝 More Than Treatment: Communication That Heals

At our practice, we believe physiotherapy is not just about exercises, manual therapy, or machines. It’s about understanding, connection, and clarity.

When you walk into our rooms, you deserve to know:
• What is causing your pain
• What it means for your body and your goals
• How we are going to treat it
• What you can do to recover and stay strong

We take the time to explain your diagnosis in simple, clear language—because when you understand your body, you feel more in control, less anxious, and more motivated to heal.

Your questions matter. Your story matters. Your goals matter.

At Sports Physios Inc., you’re not just a diagnosis—you’re a person, and we’re on this journey with you every step of the way.

🏌️‍♂️ The Moment a Golfer Gets Cleared to Play Again…

There are few things in life that make a man happier than hearing:
👉 “Yes, you can start playing golf again.”

Suddenly:
• The swing is smoother
• The handicap is definitely improving
• And the tee time is already booked 😋

At Sports Physios Inc., we love seeing that first smile when golfers get back on the course—safely, pain-free, and stronger than before.

If an injury is keeping you off the fairway, we’ll help you get back to bombing drives and blaming the wind for missed putts 😉

Thoracic Mobility: The Hidden Key to Better Movement & Less Pain

Did you know that stiffness in your upper and mid-back (thoracic spine) can lead to neck pain, shoulder injuries, and even lower back problems?

Your thoracic spine is designed to rotate, extend, and flex—especially important for athletes and patients who run, lift, swing, throw, or sit for long hours. When this area becomes stiff, other joints (like your shoulders and lower back) are forced to compensate, increasing your risk of injury.

At Sports Physios Inc., we assess and treat thoracic mobility to help you:
✔ Improve posture
✔ Increase performance
✔ Reduce pain and stiffness
✔ Move more efficiently

What is TPI?
Titleist Performance Institute is the world’s leading educational organisation dedicated to the study of how the body functions in relation to the golf swing.

What does an assessment entail?
The screen involves an assessment of swing mechanics and biomechanics, physical fitness, movement quality and current health.

Aim of the assessment:
The belief is that there isn’t one correct way to swing a club. There is however one effective way for every player to swing based on what the player can physically do. Once physical limitations and capabilities have been assessed, a unique plan is created for improvement.

What is the k-vest?
Motion sensor placed on body segments that allows k-vest software to capture the individual’s swing. The data is used to assess, plan a new or improved swing and build the right coaching and training program to achieve that swing.

If you’re looking for an objective and innovative look at swing improvement book an assessment now with our TPI qualified physio Willie van den Berg.

Unilateral or one leg balance exercises often form part of a rehab program, but the reason for their inclusion is not explained to the patient or athlete.

To discuss this from an outcome based perspective we can break it down as follows:

A)Desired outcome=maximum downward force generation in the leg (also known as ground-reaction force)
B) Force transferred effectively for forward propulsion (running) or to an object (eg. ball in golf/ tennis/ cricket).

To achieve optimal ground-reaction force we need sound dynamic stability (eg. Stabilising muscles in lateral hip), sound passive stability (ligament and joint structures) and proprioceptive feedback (eg. ankle). To identify why you are not performing at your best or why you have pain we need to assess all these factors in depth and then tailor a rehab program to suit your needs.

The success of your rehabilitation relies largely on how personally invested and committed you are in the process. A physiotherapist role is to keep you informed and involved along the way; The better you understand your body and the way it moves, the more successful you will be at doing what is necessary to heal and recover!

“Tight” or “stiff” lower back?
There can be many reasons for your back feeling stiff and not necessarily painful. It may be due to joint hypo mobility in your spine, but often the muscle spasms occur protectively due to an underlying weakness instability or hyper mobility in one of your joints (hip or spine). In this case it is not enough to only “release” the stiff muscle- unless the underlying issue is identified + addressed the muscle spasm will simply return.
