Surprise, surprise. Lemons contain far more sugar than strawberries. It's only because of the acidity in lemons which gives it that tangy, sour taste that actually masks the sweetness. The good news about lemons and strawberries is that when you combine their vitamin, fibre, and plant compound health benefits with the supposed healing powers of sugar, as discovered by the ancient Greeks and Romans, you've got a winning medicinal formula for anything from fevers and coughs to chapped lips and tummy aches. So before you say cheers to sugar, remember that NATURAL SUGARS are really good for you. And, for more sweet findings, join www.syntropwellbeing.com You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Did you know that sugar has been around for well over 10 000 years with its origins in the Indian sub-continent? Originally being consumed by chewing on raw sugarcanes, it started being crystallised for ease of transportation around 500 BC. Oddly enough sugar was originally introduced to the world as a SPICE, not a SWEETENER. It took another two millennia before producers in Venice started setting up their own plantations in the 15th century, swiftly making them not the primary importer, but producer of sugar for Europe. Sugar can be found in pretty much every plant, but it can only be extracted – or at least economically efficiently extracted– from sugarcane and sugar beet. And today it is a ‘luxury’ product consumed by the gallons, written about in history books, break-up diaries, recipes and of course heal. Not all sugar is bad. Like most things in life, it’s all about moderation. However, sugars are a carbohydrate that are naturally found in many foods. The body mostly uses carbohydrates as an energy source. Some glucose are essential for the brain, central nervous system, and red blood cells to perform properly. According to the American Heart Association (AHA), the body does not need any ADDED sugar to function healthily. Problems generally start arise when food producers then add additional sugars to products, causing blood sugar levels to escalate. The AHA recommends a maximum daily ADDED sugar intake of less than 36 g, or 9 teaspoons, for males and less than 25 g, or 6 teaspoons, for females. So, the next time you’re about to drown your food in tomato sauce or indulge in more than just 1 biscuit, stop, think and re-think your decision. We're not into sugar-coating. Especially when it comes to our health and the dangers of something so deliciously sweet and yummy that we wonder, "But how can something so good be so bad". Sadly, for all of us, regardless of how young, skinny or fit we are, consuming too much sugar will increase chronic inflammation. Because sugar stimulates the production of free fatty acids in the liver. When the body digests these free fatty acids, the resulting compounds can trigger inflammatory processes. Different kinds of sugar may contribute more or less to inflammation. And higher sugar consumption has been linked to a higher risk of frailty as we age. A study in the May 2018 American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that older adults who consumed more than 36 grams a day of added sugar were more likely to become frail compared with those who consumed less than 15 grams daily. Moral of the story: Stay young and bitter!😆Only kidding. But we do recommend you take caution as to what you're feeding your body and mind. Did you know that your body doesn't know the difference between natural sugar and added sugar? Because they both get processed in the same way. The important difference is how quickly the body digests them. "Foods with natural sugar — fruits and vegetables — also contain soluble fiber, which means your body digests the accompanying sugars more slowly," says Dr. Sun of Harvard Medical School. In comparison, added sugar lacks fiber, so it's absorbed much faster. "This can cause blood sugar levels to spike, leading to an insulin surge, which can increase hunger," says Dr. Sun. And, as we all know, one of the biggest threats from added sugar is weight gain. To find out more facts around the bittersweet truth of sugars, join www.syntropwellbeing.com You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Of course it tastes good. It’s sugar! It’s found in countless foods. And a sugar by any other name still tastes as sweet (dextrose, maltose, fructose, sucrose, glucose). But sadly isn’t as kind on the body. The unsugar-coated truth about sugar is that is can be addictive. You see, sugar stimulates the body to overproduce dopamine – a pleasure hormone – which causes the body to crave more sugar, and the cycle continues. In this way, sugar behaves like a drug. By consuming more and more sugar, we over-activate this system and develop a loss of control, craving, and tolerance to sugary foods. Much like drugs, while that warm, fuzzy feeling at the time can be wonderful, the dangerous side-effects are only moments away. So, over the next while, we’ll be helping you to get to KNOW YOUR SUGARS. This way, you can make better, healthier food choices. According to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), one cup of regular black coffee brewed from ground beans contains TWO CALORIES. A shot of rich black espresso contains a minimal ONE CALORIE. And, if you use decaffeinated beans, the number of calories in your coffee is reduced to ZERO. You see, black coffee contains a substance called CHLOROGENIC ACID, which delays the production of glucose in the body after supper. It further reduces the formation of new fat cells, resulting in even fewer calories. "Chlorogenic acid in coffee acts as an antioxidant,” says Dr. Simran Saini from Fortis Hospital, ”It aids weight loss and maintain blood sugar levels in the body."
