Our beautiful birth story.

As we waited, not so, patiently for our little princess to arrive things slowly started progressing without me even knowing.

Saturday the 23rd of February.. My due date according to my lmp, we spent the day spring cleaning while I was irritated beyond words 😂 the waiting and not knowing was driving me insane. 40 weeks and still no signs of Emilie coming.

I decided to take a break from all the teas and drinks, from bouncing on the gym ball and from stressing about getting labour started. Enough was enough and I needed to relax now.

I had done some research on hypno birthing and had downloaded some of the hypno birthing music. So I listened to this and enjoyed the last few days of my final pregnancy.

Monday came and my body was irritable, the Braxton hicks contractions had somewhat changed but not enough yet to make me think otherwise. By Monday evening I was experiencing more and more contractions but at different intervals... Still not convinced it was labour or anything to have to share with my midwife. (or anyone else)

Still going to the shops and going with to take my son to and from school, I carried on with life and let it be.

Early hours of Tuesday morning it was time to let the midwife know what had been happening. The pain had intensified but I was still not fully convinced that it was actually "time". Verina decided to come and do a home visit to check my progress, I was only about 1 to 2cm dilated with a thick cervix. So we decided that I needed to try and slow the contractions down so I wouldn't be too tired by the time real labour began. So I rested the whole day, drank my jirra tea and water and managed to get an hours sleep. After dinner we bathed and settled the boys, I asked Marcus if I could sit between his legs while I listened to my hypno birthing as his touch helped me deal with the pain with each contraction.
30 minutes later and the track was finished. Off to the loo I go... My mucous plug had begun to release. STILL not convinced I needed to phone the midwife I let it be. Contractions intensified and 2 more toilet trips later it was time to let Verina know what was happening.

Verina arrived at around 10pm and confirmed that my cervix was ready, waters bubbling and I was 7cm dilated. We started with a tracing at home to not waste time at the hospital. While laying on the couch my water started to release... Contractions have now gotten quite serious.
Worried I might have baby in the car, we asked my brother to drive us to Genesis. A long, bumpy and painful drive it was indeed.

Got to Genesis and climbed straight in the bath. I labored for another hour in the water before I had the urge to push. 30 minutes of pushing and out comes the head. Verina instructs me to push again to get the rest of the body out.. Surprise surprise.. my body doesn't want to push anymore 😂 I am flipped around and holding onto Marcus as I manage to get the strength to give the biggest push I possibly can. Out comes the most beautiful baby girl I have ever seen. Our daughter is born, healthy and happy.
With a Minor tear only requiring 6 stitches and we are ready to start our lives together. ❤️

Weighing 4.29kg, head circumference of 36cm and a height/length of 54cm. Born 27th of February at 00:39am
