28.02.2021 ~ INTERNATIONAL RARE DISEASE DAY
Why is today so important?
🧬 A day dedicated to creating awareness of rare conditions
🧬 An opportunity to acknowledge those impacted by rare conditions - including patients, parents, siblings, carers, healthcare providers, supportive therapy providers, friends and family members
🧬 A celebration of all that has achieved by Rare Diseases South Africa NPO 120-991 since inception in 2013
🧬 A chance to reach those who are yet to be diagnosed, who have been misdiagnosed or who have been braving an invisible illness in silence
🧬 A moment to thank our donors, sponsors, ambassadors and Rare ACTIVists for their contribution to creating positive change
🧬 A chance to publicly recognise the rare community who have become extended family, a support system and hype-squad for one another despite often having never met one another
🧬 A stark reminder that for many South Africans, the required treatment and support for their condition is still often decided on in terms of what is "affordable" to the state or private medical aid companies 😢
🧬 A commitment to continued research and advocacy for improved quality of life for those impacted by rare diseases
🧬 A chance to appreciate our small team of wonder women who work tirelessly to keep this organisation running effectively for the benefit of all those impacted by rare conditions 💙
