The default assumption is that any kind of weight loss is good. That someone is automatically healthier, happier, and overall better off for being smaller in size. And conversely, we see weight gain as something to be feared and looked down on.

But as we know, this is not always the case.

โ€œWeight lossโ€ and โ€œimproved healthโ€ are not synonymous.

This does not mean that health outcomes never improve with weight loss in SOME situations. But it does mean that just because someone has lost weight does not necessarily mean theyโ€™re healthier.

Additionally, sometimes weight gain can actually be a reflection of improved health behaviors and outcomes, such as no longer chronically undereating, healing relationship with food, and more.

Commenting on someoneโ€™s weight loss or weight gain is unnecessary.

They could have an illness, such as cancer, depression, or an eating disorder.
They could be engaging in unhealthy eating and exercise practices that youโ€™re now indirectly praising.
You could be perpetuating a certain body ideal (typically the thin ideal).

Also:

Someoneโ€™s changing body size is none of your business.

For the writer and her sister, the family's tendency to talk about food choices in moral terms triggered an unhealthy obsession with eating and a skewed sense of self-worth.

The female body was never supposed to be smooth, firm and flawless. It was designed to create life, to host life, to feed life.

Yes there are many other amazing aspects to us all but underpinning our fight to retain a โ€˜figureโ€™, is a whole network of genetics, science and an entire evolutionary process which wants to create, store and produce fat for protection and hormonal health. If you are losing a battle for slimness, do not for a moment think this is your fault. You are trying to blow away the wind.

Feed yourself well, physically, mentally and spiritually, and then enjoy your life with the vessel you inhabit. Itโ€™s a one shot only thing. Peace, laughter and acceptance are the best medicines around.

Hi, I'm Gaby.

I realised that I have never introduced myself on social media. So here it goes!

I am 32 years old, although I look like I am in my early twenties ๐Ÿ˜‚

I have 2 children. A boy named Harley and a baby girl named Alex โ™ฅ๏ธโ™ฅ๏ธ

I am a qualified dietitian but I don't believe in dieting
I am a qualified personal trainer and I love doing crossfit,๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ

I love coffee and can't start my day without a cuppa or two โ˜•
I also love wine ๐Ÿท especially a good pinotage or oaked chardonnay.

My natural hair colour is light brown and my eyes are 100% real, no contacts! (I get asked that a lot ๐Ÿ‘€).

I really enjoy cooking, baking and eating ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ I could definitely say that my favorite foods are cake ๐ŸŽ‚ and pizza ๐Ÿ•. And yes, I eat both... frequently ๐Ÿ˜‰

One thing that many people don't know about me is that I'm addicted to online shopping ๐Ÿ›๏ธ oh, and most nights I am in bed by 9pm ๐Ÿ›๏ธ

My life has been kinda crazy lately. My baby girl was born 3 months premature and is still in the hospital ๐Ÿฅ she's doing well though ๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿป.

One motto that I live by is "Accept and move on, but never give up."
