Breathing is something you do without thinking. Until you cannot.

For some patients, serious illness or injury means needing a ventilator to help them breathe.

Ventilator rehabilitation is the process of helping you regain the ability to breathe independently, step by step, with the support of a specialised medical and therapy team.

With the right care, you can improve your strength, support your lungs, and work toward greater independence.

This is where recovery begins.

One Small Action Can Protect Your Recovery.

Clean hands are one of the most powerful ways to prevent infection, especially when you are recovering from illness, surgery, or managing complex health conditions.

Good hand hygiene helps protect you from complications, supports healing, and keeps your recovery on track. It also protects those around you, including other patients and your loved ones.

At ClaytonHouse, every step of care is designed with your safety in mind, including strict hygiene practices that support better outcomes.

Because your recovery deserves protection.

How Splinting Helps Improve Mobility

After a stroke, everyday movements like opening your hand or holding an object can become difficult. One of the tools occupational therapists use to support recovery is called a splint.

A splint is a custom support made from a thermoplastic material that is carefully molded to fit a patient’s hand or wrist. In neuro rehabilitation, splints help position the hand correctly so that muscles and joints stay flexible and functional.

Splinting can help maintain muscle length, protect joint movement, and support better hand function during recovery.
For some patients, it can also improve grip and make everyday tasks easier.

In this video, an occupational therapist explains how a wrist extension splint works.
By gently positioning the wrist in the correct position, the hand is able to move more effectively, allowing patients to use their fingers with greater control.

Every physical rehabilitation journey is different, which is why occupational therapists assess each patient individually to decide if splinting will help support their recovery.

Understanding tools like splints can help patients and families feel more confident during stroke rehabilitation.

The Role of Health and Safety at Work

Today we recognise World Health and Safety Day at Work
At ClaytonHouse, safety is at the heart of how we care for patients and support their families. Creating a safe environment allows patients to focus on recovery while families feel confident that their loved ones are in good hands.

Every day, our teams follow important safety practices that protect patients and healthcare professionals.
This includes safe patient handling, infection prevention, careful monitoring, and clear communication between healthcare teams and families.

These measures help create an environment where patients can rebuild strength, regain independence, and continue their physical rehabilitation journey with confidence.

Safety is not just a policy. It is part of the culture of care that supports every patient and family who walks through our doors.

On World Health and Safety Day, we recognise the healthcare teams who work every day to maintain safe and supportive environments for healing, recovery, and living.

Freedom Day

Freedom Day reminds us of the importance of dignity, opportunity, and the ability to live life with independence.

For many patients and families, the journey of recovery after illness or injury is also about reclaiming freedom in everyday moments. It may be the freedom to walk again, to communicate, to return home, or to take part in daily life with loved ones.

At Clayton House, teams work alongside patients and families as they take steps toward regaining independence and confidence.

Recovery often happens gradually. Small milestones can lead to meaningful changes in a person’s life and the lives of those around them.

This Freedom Day, we celebrate the resilience of patients, the support of families, and the progress that comes from working together toward better patient outcomes.

World Voice Day

Our voices help us share stories, connect with loved ones, and express how we feel.

On World Voice Day, we recognise how important communication is in everyday life. For some patients recovering from illness, injury, or neurological conditions, speaking clearly or using their voice can become difficult.

Through specialised physical rehabilitation programmes such as our Neurological Rehabilitation service, the teams at ClaytonHouse support patients as they work to regain communication skills and confidence. Speech therapy focuses on helping patients strengthen their voice, improve their speech, and reconnect with the people around them.

Families also play an important role in this journey. Encouragement, patience, and support at home can make a meaningful difference as patients rebuild their communication abilities.

Today, we celebrate the voices of patients, families, and healthcare teams who continue to support one another through recovery.

What to Expect at The Start of Your Recovery Journey at ClaytonHouse

Starting your after-hospital care can feel uncertain. Understanding the journey can make it easier for patients and families.

Here is what the journey typically looks like:
1. Your doctor sends a referral, and the team works with your medical aid so physical rehabilitation can begin as soon as possible.
2. An admission specialist meets with you to understand your needs and recovery goals.
3. Your transfer is arranged, and the care team creates a physical rehabilitation plan tailored to you.
4. Therapy begins. Each day focuses on improving movement, strength, and independence.
5. A family meeting helps loved ones understand the journey and prepare for life after discharge.
6. Before going home, you and your family receive guidance on how to continue exercises and support recovery.
7. When you leave, you receive a discharge summary and recommendations for any follow-up therapy.
8. After discharge, we will check in to see how you are readjusting to your home, work, and community environments.

Recovery happens step by step. Every small milestone matters.

Understanding the process helps to reduce uncertainties and anxieties you may have.
