The Cognitive Coach

The Cognitive Coach Cognitive Behavioural Coaching is a life coaching discipline based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).

Cognitive Coaching will help you or your child to feel better by focusing on the links between what you think, how you feel and what you do. Cognitive Coaching helps decrease negative feelings and behaviour by teaching you (or your child) how to modify your negative thoughts. You'll learn to change the way you think and feel—allowing you more time and energy to do the things you enjoy.

Congratulations to all those who did not get eleven distinctions. To those who barely passed because the journey hasn't been an easy one.

To those who spent nights studying with only a few candles because they still do not have access to electricity.

To those who had desperately wanted to study but did not always have the time because they had to look after younger siblings.

To those who missed school and fell behind on homework because they could not afford the "luxury" of sanitary pads.

To those who woke up long before everyone else to catch taxis or had to walk great distances to get to school and back.

And to those who sat in exam venues trying desperately to remember the answers while hunger and discomfort tried to distract them from accomplishing their goals.

Eleven distinctions? Absolutely amazing.

But sometimes barely passing is a far greater accomplishment.

“You don’t have to have it all figured out to move forward” -Roy T Bennet.

Do you find yourself waiting for everything to be working perfectly before progressing to the next step?
Examples:
“I will only start running and exercising once I’ve altered my diet and lost weight.” Or “I will only voice my opinions in work meetings when I move up in the corporate hierarchy.”

By waiting for things to be functioning perfectly before moving on, you are postponing your next step in growth. Things may never, and very often do not, become “all figured out.” By waiting, you have then denied yourself the opportunity to accomplish your desired goal.

So instead of waiting and postponing something that may not even happen, attempt to reach your goals and treat yourself to the experience of achieving your next goal!

Sometimes, you’ve just gotta jump in!

Covid-19: Coping with the changes

“Anxiety will always be present when we change the present faster than we’re comfortable with, but I believe the best way to overcome our anxiety is to teach ourselves to be excited and energized by change”- John Sanei

Changes are inevitable. We have a choice: fear/avoid/deny the changes or embrace them and see them as opportunities for new growth! 🍃🌿🌱

A message from the team at the Cognitive Coach: Set yourself a challenge!

A lockdown has the tendency to make us feel slow, unproductive and ineffective.
But did you know that Sir Isaac Newton formulated his laws of Physics while in lockdown during the Black Plague? 🍎🌳
This enforced time out gives us the opportunity to achieve something that we may never have done.

So, challenge yourself!
Choose something that you have always wanted to do; exercise, yoga, learning an art form or enrolling in a course.
Make yourself a timetable and allocate a task to do every day of the lockdown to make your goal achievable.
Cross it off when you have completed the task for that day ❌

This is beneficial for a couple of reasons.
1. It changes your mindset completely because you are working towards a goal. A goal that you would never have set for yourself,or achieved, had the lockdown never happened. Furthermore, it makes you feel productive and gives you a sense of accomplishment.
2. It teaches you the basic principles of discipline. If you are able to commit to a challenge and see it through to it’s conclusion, you will have taught yourself a crucial lifeskill! 🏆
3. It takes at least 21 days for a new habit to form. When you develop a new habit, a new neural pathway in your brain forms. And that pathway needs at least 21 days to form!

Good luck and stay safe 😎
