? Men can get breast cancer. And, with October marked as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, yoga serves as a meaningful tool to promote healing, self-care, and emotional balance.
While the month focuses on raising awareness and supporting those affected by breast cancer, yoga complements this mission by offering a gentle, restorative way to manage stress, improve flexibility, and enhance mental well-being.
According to Breastcancer.org and the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA), yoga can help reduce treatment-related fatigue, anxiety, and sleep difficulties. Importantly, men can also develop breast cancer, accounting for about 1–3% of all cases in South Africa (CANSA, 2024).
Promoting yoga during Breast Cancer Month reinforces holistic well-being — caring for body and mind while recognising that breast cancer awareness, early detection, and emotional resilience are vital for everyone.
