I've always found that humour is a valuable tool in my work. When patients come in and they're anxious, I may say something silly to put them at ease. This lovely art work was given to me as a parting gift by one of the lovely young people I've had the privilege of working with. I had said this to her as she came in.... anxious, in the throws of teenage angst and needing someone to talk to but feeling scared at the start. She found my welcome to her... which consisted of these silly words.... put her at ease and opened the door to our relationship. It's both a passion and a privilege for me to work with young people, both children and teens. Their worlds are so rich and full and to be invited to share that space with them is something they don't give easily.
