The Brainstem.
The Brainstem is the structure that connects the cerebrum of the brain to the spinal cord and cerebellum.
It is also known as the primitive brain which contains nerves and tracts that provide motor and sensory functions throughout the body. The brainstem plays a major role in regulating automatic functions such as breathing and heart rate.
