A C-Section is Not "The Easy Way Out"—It’s a Birth Story.
April is Caesarean Awareness Month, and as an OB/GYN, I want to clear something up: Birth is birth, no matter how it happens.
I see the strength it takes to face major abdominal surgery while being fully awake. I see the courage of mothers who pivot from their original plan to ensure their baby arrives safely. And I see the resilience required to heal from that surgery while caring for a newborn.
🩹 What we are advocating for this month:
Informed Consent: Every parent deserves to understand the "why" behind a
C-section, whether it's planned for safety or an emergent necessity.
Reducing Unnecessary Caesareans: We strive for evidence-based care to ensure
C-sections are used when truly life-saving, reducing avoidable risks for future pregnancies.
VBAC Support: For many, Vaginal Birth After Cesarean (VBAC) is a safe and powerful option. We are here to provide the education and medical supervision to make it possible.
Emotional Recovery: Healing isn’t just about the incision. It’s about processing the feelings of relief, grief, or empowerment that come with a surgical birth.

To all the C-section mamas: Your scar is a badge of courage. Your journey is valid. Your story matters 💗

If you have questions about your birth options or recovery, my door is always open. Let’s celebrate every way a baby comes into the world

As a specialist observing women's resilience from adolescence to motherhood and beyond, I recognize your incredible strength. This year’s International Women's Day theme, "Give To Gain," reminds us that investing in our health empowers us to lead and thrive.

✅Prioritize Your Well-being: Make your health a priority as an act of strength, not fear.
✅Knowledge is Power: Ask questions about your body, your voice, and symptoms that matter.
✅The Gift of Prevention: Early detection and regular screenings are crucial for proactive care and saving lives.

World Birth Defects Day 2026 (March 3rd)

As an obstetrician, I witness the incredible resilience of families navigating the challenges of birth defect diagnoses. While some of these conditions may come as a surprise, our mission remains steadfast: prevention, early detection, and unwavering support.

Birth defects impact approximately 1 in 33 babies worldwide. They are not merely statistics; they represent stories of courage that warrant a healthcare system grounded in equity and compassion.

How We Can Collaborate for a Healthy Start:

1️⃣Begin Before the Positive Test: Preconception care is crucial. Daily folic acid intake before and during early pregnancy can significantly lower the risk of brain and spine defects.
2️⃣Seek Early Antenatal Care: Schedule a visit with your healthcare provider as soon as you suspect pregnancy. Early scans and screenings enable timely interventions that can alter a child's future.
3️⃣Manage Existing Health Conditions: If you have chronic conditions such as diabetes or hypertension, specialized monitoring can reduce the risk of related birth defects to nearly average levels.
4️⃣Protect the Environment: Refrain from alcohol, to***co, and specific medications unless approved by your doctor. Staying updated on vaccinations like Rubella is also an essential preventive measure.
💛To the families journeying through this path: your experience is significant. You are not alone, and we are dedicated to offering the specialized care and mental health support you deserve.

Let us unite today to combat stigma and ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive. 💛
