🌿 Eczema is more than “just dry skin”. Eczema is one of the most common childhood skin conditions and often forms part of what doctors call the “allergic march,” where children with eczema may also develop allergies, hay fever or asthma over time. Children with eczema may experience:

• Dry or sensitive skin
• Itching that worsens at night
• Skin flare-ups triggered by weather, soaps, dust or allergies
• Discomfort that affects sleep and concentration

Good skin care, trigger management and early treatment can make a significant difference in improving comfort and reducing flare-ups. If your child struggles with persistent skin irritation or itching, an assessment may help identify contributing factors and guide treatment.

🌿 Understanding allergies in children.

Allergies are increasingly common in childhood and can affect different parts of the body including the skin, nose, chest and digestive system. Some children may experience eczema, itchy eyes, sneezing, blocked noses, wheezing or reactions to certain foods.

Symptoms can sometimes appear mild at first, but repeated flare-ups may begin affecting sleep, school performance, breathing or daily comfort. Identifying triggers early and understanding patterns can help families better manage symptoms and know when medical assessment may be needed.

Throughout Allergy Awareness Month, we’ll be sharing educational content to help parents better understand childhood allergies and respiratory health.

💙 World Asthma Day

Asthma is one of the most common chronic conditions affecting children, but with the right care, it can be well managed and controlled.

Asthma causes the airways to become inflamed and narrow, making it difficult for children to breathe comfortably. Symptoms may include persistent coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, or chest tightness — often triggered by infections, allergens, cold air, or physical activity.

Early diagnosis and proper treatment, including the correct use of inhalers, can help children live active, healthy lives without limitations. It is also important for parents and caregivers to recognise warning signs of poorly controlled asthma, such as frequent night coughing, increased inhaler use, or difficulty keeping up with normal activities.

Every child deserves to breathe freely and confidently. If your child shows any signs of asthma or struggles with recurring respiratory symptoms, a medical assessment is recommended.

⏰Month-end reminder: Is your child’s vaccination schedule up to date?

As we close off the month, this is the perfect time for parents to check whether their child is due for any vaccinations, boosters or catch-up doses. Preventive care is one of the most important investments you can make in your child’s long-term health. A quick review appointment can provide peace of mind and ensure your little one remains fully protected.

We welcome all parents who would like to review vaccine cards, discuss missed appointments or ask questions about the schedule.

Missed a vaccine? Your child can still catch up safely Life gets busy, and sometimes appointments are missed.

The good news is that a missed vaccine does not mean your child needs to start over. Catch-up immunisation schedules are designed to safely bring your child up to date based on their age and the vaccines already received. Early review helps ensure that your child remains protected against preventable illnesses such as measles, polio and whooping cough.

If you are unsure where your child stands, bring along the Road-to-Health card or vaccine booklet so we can review it together.

Vaccine Myths vs Facts: What every parent should know

With so much information circulating online, it can be difficult for parents to know what to believe when it comes to childhood vaccinations. Let’s separate myth from fact.

1️⃣Myth: Vaccines are only necessary when there is an outbreak.
Fact: Vaccines are most effective when given according to the recommended schedule to prevent illness before exposure.

2️⃣Myth: If my child missed one vaccine, it’s too late.
Fact: Catch-up schedules can safely help your child get back on track.

3️⃣Myth: Healthy children do not need vaccines.
Fact: Vaccination protects all children, including those who appear healthy, from serious preventable illnesses.

If you have questions about your child’s immunisation schedule, we are here to guide you with evidence-based advice and compassionate care.

How reading supports your child’s brain development Reading is not only about school performance, it plays a major role in speech development, emotional regulation and cognitive growth.

Children who are read to regularly often develop stronger language skills, better concentration and improved social understanding. Stories help children learn empathy, problem-solving and imagination.

Start early: Even babies benefit from hearing your voice as you read aloud. Board books, picture books and storytelling all support healthy development. If you are concerned about speech delay, concentration challenges or developmental milestones, early assessment is always encouraged.
