[πŸ“IN PICTORIAL πŸ“Έ] TODAY, EHP CONDUCTED A MALARIA AWARENESS SESSION AT GALESHEWE DAY HOSPITAL TO EDUCATE COMMUNITY MEMBERS BEFORE THE EASTER HOLIDAY. 🐰🦠

The Environmental Health unit held a malaria awareness session in the waiting area of Galeshewe Day Hospital, targeting patients and clients present at the facility. This session aimed to inform community members about malaria, particularly as the Easter holiday approaches, when many people travel for vacations, visit family, and attend church gatherings across the country.

Community members learned that malaria is endemic in three South African provinces: Limpopo, Mpumalanga, ande KwaZulu-Natal. The focus was on raising awareness about the risks of traveling to these malaria-endemic areas.

Key topics covered included:

- The cause of malaria, highlighting its transmission through the bite of an infected female Anopheles mosquito.
- Signs and symptoms of malaria, such as fever, chills, headache, sweating, body weakness, nausea, and vomiting.
- The importance of early testing and treatment for those who show symptoms after traveling to malaria-endemic regions.
- Preventative measures, including the use of mosquito repellents, sleeping under mosquito nets, wearing protective clothing, and seeking medical advice before traveling to high-risk areas.

Patients were urged to seek immediate medical attention if they experienced symptoms after visiting malaria-endemic regions.

The session was well-received, with patients actively engaging by asking questions and expressing interest in protecting themselves and their families from malaria infection.

FRANCES BAARD DISTRICT TEAM ENGAGES PHOKWANE COMMUNITY IN TB OUTREACH DRIVE. 🫁

This week, the Frances Baard District Team actively engaged with the Phokwane Sub District to provide essential services as part of our ongoing Tuberculosis (TB) outreach drive, which commenced at the beginning of this month. We extend our sincere gratitude to the Phokwane community for their unwavering support and participation in these outreach programs. Your engagement is crucial in our collective fight against TB.

Tuberculosis remains a significant public health challenge, affecting millions worldwide. It is a contagious disease caused by the bacteria Mycobacterium tuberculosis, primarily targeting the lungs but potentially impacting other organs. Early detection and treatment are vital to controlling the spread of the disease, as well as ensuring the health and well-being of individuals and communities.

Our outreach initiatives aim to raise awareness about TB, promote testing, and facilitate access to treatment. By working together, we can reduce the incidence of TB and improve overall community health. We encourage everyone to take advantage of these services and to prioritize their health and that of those around them. Thank you for being proactive partners in this critical endeavor.

[πŸ“IN PICTORIAL πŸ“Έ] EMPOWERING HEALTH THROUGH COLLABORATION AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT! ✨️

Today, the Department of Health in the Frances Baard District responded positively to an invitation from the Department of Social Development, to participate in their Ministerial Outreach Program. We collaborated with our partners, Tholwana e Molemo, and deployed our mobile clinic to provide essential health services to the community. Additionally, we conducted informative health talks covering critical topics such as cervical cancer, the risks associated with smoking hubbly, self-breast examination, and tuberculosis, among others.

The effectiveness of these collaborations is evident in the enhanced accessibility of health services for the community. By combining resources and expertise, we are able to deliver a more comprehensive range of services that address both health and social needs. The mobile clinic, in particular, allows us to reach underserved populations who may encounter obstacles in accessing healthcare facilities. Through our health talks, we equip community members with vital knowledge that can lead to healthier lifestyle choices and early disease detection, ultimately promoting overall community health.

Furthermore, our partnership with organizations like Tholwana e Molemo strengthens the outreach initiative by integrating additional resources and expertise. These collaborative efforts foster a sense of community engagement and accountability regarding health, encouraging individuals to take proactive steps towards their well-being. Ultimately, the synergy generated through these partnerships not only improves immediate health outcomes but also contributes to the development of a more informed and health-conscious community in the long term.

❗️[IN PICTORIAL πŸ“Έ] - NATIONAL HEALTH INSURANCE (NHI) PROVINCIAL WORKSHOP FOCUSING ON CONTRACTING UNITS FOR PRIMARY HEALTH CARE WORKSHOP IN KIMBERLEY.

The National Department of Health continued with
its provincial engagements, this time around focusing on Northern Cape, towards the establishment and implementation of Contracting Units for Primary Health Care (CUPs) in Phokwane local Municipality, as part of the National Health Insurance (NHI) reforms.

The one-day session took place at Protea Hotel in Kimberley, facilitated by Dr. Harsha Somaroo from the National Department of Health and attended by District Health Management Teams and Hospital CEOs.

These engagements form part of the CUPs Proof-of-Concept (PoC) initiative, which aims to test and refine the operational systems, governance, provider payment, and health system building blocks required to enable population-based strategic purchasing and capitation payments at the primary health care level.

The Chief Director responsible for the Provincial Health Department, Ms. Zama Kiti expressed gratitude to a continued support from national to ensure that the provinces works towards realising this goal. Furthermore, She highlighted that attainment of this goal is a moral imperative that the department must work towards, in light of the worsening inequities in the current healthcare service delivery model.

[πŸ“IN PICTURES πŸ“Έ] COMMEMORATING HUMAN RIGHTS: A DAY OF HEALTH AND AWARENESS πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦

Today, the Northern Cape Department of Health Frances Baard District participated in a significant Human Rights Commemorative event held at the A Arabas Stadium in Kimberley. With President Cyril Ramaphosa delivering the keynote address, this occasion served as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made in the struggle for equality and justice in South Africa. It provides an opportunity to reflect on our commitment to upholding human dignity and ensuring that the lessons learned from our past guide us toward a more equitable future.

At this important gathering, the Department of Health took proactive steps to promote community health, recognizing that access to healthcare is a fundamental human right. We delivered essential health services to attendees, reinforcing the idea that health is inextricably linked to human rights. By integrating these services into our commemorative activities, we aimed to highlight the importance of supporting the physical and mental well-being of every individual.

Our health promotion initiatives included offering HIV testing, blood pressure monitoring, and blood sugar testing. These services empower individuals with vital information about their health status, encouraging proactive management and preventative care. By making these essential services available at a prominent public event, we aimed to foster greater awareness of the importance of regular health check-ups and the role they play in maintaining overall health.

In summary, the observance of Human Rights Day not only honors our historical struggles but also serves as a vital platform for advancing health awareness. By linking health services to this significant occasion, we emphasize our shared responsibility to create a society where everyone has the opportunity to live a healthy and fulfilling life, thereby ensuring that health and human rights go hand in hand.
