That "knot" in your shoulder isn't actually a piece of string. 🧵🚫
We’ve all felt them—those tight, tender lumps that seem to appear overnight. But what is a "knot" (medically known as a trigger point) actually doing under your skin?
Essentially, it’s a tiny patch of muscle that has stayed contracted and "forgotten" how to relax. This cuts off local blood flow, traps metabolic waste, and sends those familiar "ouch" signals to your brain.
At our practice in Hadison Park, we use two primary ways to "talk" to these muscles:
1️⃣ Manual Therapy: Through targeted pressure, we manually encourage the muscle fibers to lengthen and blood to flow back into the area. It’s a "reset" for your muscle’s tension settings.
2️⃣ Dry Needling: We use a fine, sterile needle to reach deeper trigger points. This creates a "local twitch response"—which is basically your muscle’s way of hitting the reboot button. It releases the contraction and flushes the area with fresh, healing blood.
It might look intense, but the relief is often instant. We aren't just rubbing the surface; we’re changing the chemistry and tension underneath.
Because movement is medicine, and sometimes your muscles just need a little help remembering how to move freely. 🌿
