Ways in which our therapists can assist~
Speech therapy:
Communication, including verbal and nonverbal skills, social interaction, and language comprehension.
Interventions:
*Speech Sounds and Articulation*: Addressing difficulties with producing specific sounds or words.
*Language Development*: Expanding vocabulary, grammar, and sentence structure.
*Social Communication*: Improving skills for initiating and maintaining conversations, understanding social cues, and expressing emotions.
*Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)*: Using visual aids, communication boards, or technology to help individuals communicate while simultaneously working on verbal speech.
*Receptive Language*: Improving understanding of spoken language and following instructions.
Occupational Therapy (OT)~
Motor skills, sensory processing, and daily living activities to promote independence and participation in meaningful occupations.
Interventions.
*Sensory Processing*: Helping individuals regulate sensory input and respond appropriately to different sensations (e.g., touch, sound, movement).
*Fine Motor Skills*: Developing skills for tasks like writing, buttoning clothes, or using scissors.
*Gross Motor Skills*: Improving coordination, balance, and movement skills.
*Self-Care Skills*: Assisting with activities of daily living, such as dressing, bathing, eating, and grooming.
*Play Skills*: Encouraging imaginative play and social interaction through play activities.
Psychology ~
*Family Therapy*:
Our councelling psychologist can help families understand the challenges of raising an autistic child and address any emotional or behavioral difficulties that may arise.
Education about autism, and effective strategies for supporting a child's development and well-being.
*Addressing Emotional and Behavioral Issues*:
Assistance for individuals and families to manage emotional distress, anxiety, and behavioral challenges associated with autism.
Therapy for autistic students, to help them engage with their peers, manage stress, or handle difficult interactions with bullies or general teasing. They may also assist with both children and adults with autism to treat issues such as social anxiety and depression.
