This year has been my favourite by far!πŸ₯ΉπŸ‘πŸΌ

We celebrated 2 years of Karissa Strydom Physiotherapy on the 4th of March and it’s been such an incredible second year in Kirkwood. Just over two years since opening my practice and I couldn’t be happier with the progress and growth thus far.🌱

Thank you to all my patients for your commitment and loyalty. But above everything thank you for supporting me in this new season of motherhood. I appreciate every mom tip, word of encouragement and just rooting for me and showing up in more ways than I could’ve ever imagined. I wouldn’t have been able to do it all if it weren’t for all of you!🫢🏼

I’m incredibly grateful Kirkwood 🀍

Cervicogenic headaches (CGH) are quite literally a pain in the neck! They are considered a secondary form of headache which develops from somatic referred pain from the upper cervical spine.
Manual therapy provided by a Physiotherapist can help.

Physiotherapy evaluation and treatment can help determine the type of headache you are experiencing and aid in symptom relief as well as appropriate management and rehab programs.

β–ͺ️How long do π™–π™£π™ π™‘π™š 𝙨π™₯π™§π™–π™žπ™£π™¨ take to heal?
Ankle sprains are a common injury, but needs to be managed correctly to avoid ankle instability or chronic pain and stiffness.

Healing can take up to 6 weeks or longer depending on the grade of injury you have. Visiting a physiotherapist in the healing phase can help control swelling, maintain range of motion and facilitate proprioception retaining.

π™π™šπ™˜π™ͺπ™§π™§π™šπ™£π™© π™–π™£π™ π™‘π™š 𝙨π™₯π™§π™–π™žπ™£π™¨:
β–ͺ️Recurring ankle sprains can be a pain! They’re often caused by a mix of factors:

1️⃣ Ligament laxity and scarring from previous sprains.
2️⃣ Not fully rehabbing previous sprains, leading to weak ankle muscles, especially on the outside.
3️⃣ Decreased ability to judge foot position

Don’t ignore it! Thorough investigation and rehab are key!

π˜½π™–π™˜π™  π™₯π™–π™žπ™£:

Lower back pain (LBP) is the fifth most common reason for physician visits and affects nearly 60-80% of people throughout their lifetime.
There are different definitions of LOWER BACK PAIN depending on the source. β€œPain or discomfort, localised below the costal margin and above inferior gluteal folds, with or without leg pain.” The most common form of lower back pain is called β€œnon-specific lower back pain” and is defined as β€œlower back pain not attributed to recognizable known specific pathology.”
Lower back pain is usually categorized in 3 subtypes: acute, sub-acute and chronic low back pain. This subdivision is based on the duration of back pain. Acute lower back pain is an episode of low back pain for less than 6 weeks, sub-acute low back pain between 6 and 12 weeks and chronic low back pain for 12 weeks or more.

Are you tired of dealing with persistent back pain that hinders your daily activities? Look no further! Physiotherapists are experts in providing effective solutions for your back pain concerns. Effective treatment includes advice on managing back pain and non-pharmacological interventions including exercise, manual therapy and dry needling.

Benefits of using 𝗦π—ͺπ—œπ—¦π—¦ π—•π—”π—Ÿπ—Ÿπ—¦

β–ͺ️Flexibility:
Using a Swiss ball during your workout routine can help improve your flexibility. Whether it is for a pre-workout warm-up or post-workout stretch down, the Swiss ball can go a long way to keep your muscle and joints flexible.
β€’
β–ͺ️Core:
Using a Swiss ball can help you build your abdominal and lower back muscles, also known as the core. These muscles help protect your lumbar spine as well as help maintain the core stability of your frame.
β€’
β–ͺ️Balance:
Just sitting on a Swiss ball alone engages the key stabilisers, the abdominals and the back muscles. These improvements can also help with preventing future injury, as the more balanced and rounded your core, the more strong and stable you are!
β€’
β–ͺ️Pregnancy:
During pregnancy sitting on a Swiss ball improves your posture and relieves pressure, which can help with aches and pains. Tilting your hips back and forth and side to side while you sit on the ball also keeps your hips and back mobile. More mobility can mean less discomfort.
β€’
β–ͺ️Versatility:
The great thing, possibly the BEST THING about Swiss balls is their versatility. Not only are they versatile in terms of convenience, but more importantly, Swiss balls can be incorporated into a number of exercise disciplines.

L.A.S.E.R. stands for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation.
Laser Therapy involves the application of low-intensity laser light to relieve pain caused due to the damage of soft tissue. It facilitates tissue repair and restores normal cell function. It is used by medical professionals to heal wounds and pain.

This procedure is safe, effective and non-invasive to use. Although you will feel the laser device touching your skin but the procedure is painless, no vibration or heat is felt. The non-thermal photons of light that are emitted from the Laser, pass through the skin layers. Once the light passes through the layers of the skin and reaches the target area, the body tissue absorbs the light and initiates a series of events in the cell resulting in the healing of damaged or injured tissue, reduction in pain and inflammation, and an overall reduction in healing time by increasing intracellular metabolism.

Low level Laser therapy can also bring great relief to breastfeeding mothers whose ni***es have been damaged, struggle to heal, due to the baby being fed every few hours.

β–ͺ️The benefits of Laser Therapy:
βœ”οΈWound healing
βœ”οΈPain reduction
βœ”οΈIncreasing blood flow to the area
βœ”οΈReduction of inflammation
