*International Expertise Meets Local Excellence: Klerksdorp Hospital Partners with Global Specialists to Advance Fetal and Maternal Care*

Klerksdorp- The Klerksdorp Hospital, a tertiary hospital in the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District recently took a bold step forward in advancing specialised healthcare through a powerful collaboration with world-renowned medical experts from India. As part of the North-West University Faculty Development Programme, the hospital hosted Prof Balu Vaidyanathan, a leading Fetal and Paediatric Cardiologist, and Prof Vivek Krishnan, a Fetomaternal Specialist from the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences in Kochi, India.
The visit was marked by high-impact lectures and hands-on tutorials presented to staff from the Departments of Paediatrics and Obstetrics. The professors also shared their exceptional expertise in intrauterine procedures — highly specialised interventions conducted on a fetus while still in the womb. These procedures are critical in identifying and treating fetal conditions early, thereby improving survival rates and long-term health outcomes.

In addition to their hospital visit, the specialists conducted a comprehensive sonography workshop over the weekend for fetomaternal experts across South Africa. This practical training allowed clinicians to refine their skills in fetal imaging, improve diagnostic accuracy, and stay abreast of global best practices in maternal and fetal care.

The hospital CEO Mr Thulani Madonsela has commended the collaboration as a step forward in bringing together great minds to reach new heights in specialised hospital care.

The second day of Lekgotla featured two key presentations by provincial leadership, focusing on:

1. Financial performance, cost containment, and culture shift (including cash flow)
2. Emergency services and medicine availability

Delegates were then divided into five commissions to drive progress and contribute to the Hospital's annual operational plan and five-year strategic plan.

Commissions:

1. Quality Assurance, Infection Control, and Occupational Health and Safety
2. Clinical Governance, CEO Office, and Clinical Management Nursing
3. Finance, Supply Chain, and Revenue
4. Corporate Services
5. Information Technology, Communication, Infrastructure, and Health Technology

Objective:
The commissions aimed to deliberate and provide recommendations on key areas, contributing to the development of the Hospital's plans.

Celebrating Mandela Day with Compassion

Klerksdorp/Tshepong Hospital's Occupational Therapy department honored Mandela Day by issuing 14 new wheelchairs to patients with permanent disabilities in the KOSH area. Each patient underwent a thorough clinical assessment to qualify for this life-changing support.
