The Iris Foundation, formerly Hannah Grace Counselling, is a growing psychology practice in Hillcrest, KwaZulu-Natal. Run by Hannah Grace Tedder (Counselling Psychologist), the Iris Foundation is an organization grounding itself in values of health, family and resilience. A word laden with meaning, “iris” is a word that denotes promise, new life and growth. The Greeks referred to iris as a rainbow

, a symbol of promises, hope and renewal, even through the most harrowing experiences. Anatomically speaking, the iris regulates the light entering the eye, essentially the body’s vehicle to discern real from unreal, truth from lies. The iris is also a bold, bright flower with a strong root system, making it a sturdy, resilient plant. Feel free to reach out to enquire about pricing and availability.

Ever felt exhausted even after a weekend of doing nothing?

Numbing out is not the same thing as resting. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing quite like a Friday night Netflix binge, but there may be more to switching off than scrolling.

Here are three ideas for a more active approach to rest based on recent research findings.

I'm no mountaineer. In fact, the prospect of going for a hike usually produces an urge to search for every reason under the sun why today would not be a good day to go for a walk.

But those mountain vistas don't have quite the same effect without that trickle of sweat down your brow, or those wobbly legs or the occasional slip down the mountainside. Knowing what it took to get there makes the destination that much more glorious.

Pleasure without sacrifice is just distraction.

There is nothing glamorous about sleeping on the floor of a cave (I did it for love, I have the ring now). But the sacrifice was worth that fresh mountain spring water, those dramatic peaks or those ice-cold marble pools.

Victory is certainly more uncomfortable than convenience, but it is far more valuable and far more satisfying. Victory is hard-earned, and requires sacrifice. Sacrifice breeds accomplishment, and accomplishment breeds fulfillment. Don't be afraid to count the cost, and to feel the pang of the price.

Just put one foot in front of the other.

A word laden with meaning, "iris" is a word that denotes promise, new life and growth.

The Greeks referred to iris as a rainbow, a symbol of promises, hope and renewal, even through the most harrowing experiences.

Anatomically speaking, the iris regulates the light entering the eye, essentially the body's vehicle to discern real from unreal, truth from lies.

The iris is also a bold, bright flower with a strong root system, making it a sturdy, resilient plant.

And so, with these layers of meaning in mind, Iris was the clear choice to capture our fresh vision for the coming season.

We hope you love the name as much as we do!
