ny Team, being mothers as well as health professionals, gained an empathetic perspective on the sensitivities surrounding assessments and therapy. A factor which makes us unique is our weekly team meeting, designed to discuss children we support collaboratively. We continue to study developments and technology surrounding education & health; and share our discoveries with the rest of the team. It is not unusual for 2 Harmony Therapists to meet a child in the same session (for example Speech and OT), especially those with special needs. A child may be more motivated to learn to communicate while on an OT swing, or more motivated to trust a new type of swing with the speech therapist that they trust. Formal Testing, when required, can be helpful in detecting the level of functioning of your child, especially when choosing schools or motivating for exam concessions. However, with the rising rate of anxiety in children, it can frequently be more beneficial to hold off on formal testing, implementing diagnostic therapy and “ongoing assessment”. This allows the Harmony Therapists to build trusting relationships with the children, seeing their potential once they are comfortable. We delve directly into seeing tangible progress, and assess strengths and weaknesses in play- based therapy sessions.
