The Harmony Team’s principles relate directly to meeting your child in their comfort zone, building confidence and a feeling of success, before providing small challenges to help them grow at their own pace. We support inclusive education; helping your child to reach their potential, by supporting and collaborating with parents and teachers in the educational environment you have chosen. The Harmony Team, being mothers as well as health professionals, gained an empathetic perspective on the sensitivities surrounding assessments and therapy. A factor which makes us unique is our weekly team meeting, designed to discuss children we support collaboratively. We continue to study developments and technology surrounding education & health; and share our discoveries with the rest of the team. It is not unusual for 2 Harmony Therapists to meet a child in the same session (for example Speech and OT), especially those with special needs. A child may be more motivated to learn to communicate while on an OT swing, or more motivated to trust a new type of swing with the speech therapist that they trust. Formal Testing, when required, can be helpful in detecting the level of functioning of your child, especially when choosing schools or motivating for exam concessions. However, with the rising rate of anxiety in children, it can frequently be more beneficial to hold off on formal testing, implementing diagnostic therapy and “ongoing assessment”. This allows the Harmony Therapists to build trusting relationships with the children, seeing their potential once they are comfortable. We delve directly into seeing tangible progress, and assess strengths and weaknesses in play- based therapy sessions.

*Before you medicate for concentration...*

Gethin and I spent a night in hospital these holidays to see if there was anything negatively affecting his concentration and focus.

It could be something like siezures or a simple vitamin D or iron deficiency. We also looked for possible food sensitivity and checked his hearing.

Dehydration and f***l loading can also affect concentration. Gethin is a terrible drinker so we really struggle with this 🫣 anyone else struggle here?

Before medicating your child for a behavioral or concentration related concern...do look for underlying causes!

Best part of the whole admission....we got to build the coolest lego set ever!! Kept us going from morning to night!
