Today is International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
And like every year, it gives me a moment to pause, not just to mark the day, but to reflect on what disability means in my own life.
It’s not something abstract for me. It’s woven into every part of how I move through the world, full of complexity, creativity, resilience, and yes, challenges too.
It’s being underestimated before I’ve had a chance to speak.
It’s learning how to express myself in a world that often isn’t built to hear me.
It’s finding ways to navigate systems that weren’t always designed with people like me in mind, even as more and more people are trying to change that, and I see that effort, and I’m grateful for it.
It’s also pride. Not the kind that comes from pushing through or pretending things are easy but from living fully, just as I am.
Today matters because it’s a chance to be seen — not as something to overcome or inspire, but simply as human. Valuable. Whole.
I speak up because so many can’t. I show up because I can.
And I hope this day reminds us all that every voice, every way of being, belongs.
