Avocados are a great source of vitamins C, E, K, and B-6, as well as riboflavin, niacin, folate, pantothenic acid, magnesium, and potassium. They also provide lutein, beta-carotene, and omega-3 fatty acids.

In short, they are nutrient dense, good for your heart, great for vision, contains more potassium than bananas and are loaded with fibre.

BODY COMPOSITION ANALYSIS

Body composition analysis can provide an accurate reflection of your overall health and wellness. Bodyweight alone does not account for how much fat you are carrying inside. Subcutaneous fat is visible but visceral fat is deeper and surrounds the organs. The visceral fat can significantly impact the body’s functioning.

MEET THE DIETITIAN

Charlé graduated from the University of the Free State in 2001. She spent 12 years in the UK where she gained valuable experience in various areas of dietetics. She later specialised in HIV/AIDS and Inherited Metabolic Disorders. She obtained her Master’s Degree in Nutrition in 2008. In 2014, Charlé and her family moved back to South Africa.
She recently completed the Monash University (Australia) “ Low FODMAP Diet for IBS” online training course for health professionals.

Charle’s approach is to offer clear, understandable and realistic advice and support to nutritional issues in order to achieve your goals. She will work with you to put together an individualised action plan which takes into consideration your medical background, condition, nutritional requirements, activity and lifestyle.

FODMAP is the acronym for a group of short chain carbohydrates found in food that are generally poorly absorbed by our digestive system. It stands for ‘Fermentable Oligo-, Di-, Mono-saccharides and Polyols’. These carbohydrates exist in a variety of different foods such as wheat, milk, and some fruits and vegetables.

FODMAPS could aggravate IBS symptoms – like wind, bloating, diarrhoea and abdominal pain. Many studies have shown symptom relief in people with IBS.

The low FODMAP diet is a 3 phased diet, the major goal of which is to find a balance between good symptom control and expansion of the diet.

As it is a complicated diet, it is best to see a dietitian trained in the low FODMAP diet. Charlé recently completed the Monash University (Australia) “Low FODMAP Diet for IBS” online training course for health professionals (https://www.monashfodmap.com/ibs-central/)
