We often take old emotional responses for granted- just because it's always been this way, it'll be this way this time, too.

Here's your reminder that it doesn't have to be the old way anymore. You might surprise yourself if you open up to a new way of being.

You can approach an old thing in a new light. With new skills, a new relationship to the hard stuff. Don't take the same old feelings for granted.

If you open yourself up to the possibility that this time it CAN be different-maybe it will be.

When I was diagnosed with PTSD five years ago, I saw it as a personal failure and a weakness. I thought that what I’d been through wasn’t “that bad” and that I should just be able to carry on with my life.

Then I learned that my nightmares, severe anxiety, and other symptoms were a natural response to a traumatic experience, and that having them made sense: it was my brain & body’s way of trying to protect myself from it happening again.

This reduced my shame and allowed me to be more honest with myself about how my experiences impacted me, which allowed me to begin healing.
