One of our favourite little routines is clapping each child’s name.

It may look small, but it does beautiful work.

A child hears the parts of a word.
They feel the rhythm of language.
They practise waiting, listening and joining in.
And most importantly — they hear their own name being welcomed into the group.

We spend so much time helping our children learn to read, write, and succeed… but emotional skills are just as important.
Because a child who can recognise, express, and manage their feelings is building the foundation for relationships, resilience, and wellbeing for life.

Big emotions aren’t a problem to fix — they’re skills waiting to be taught.
And when we slow down, stay close, and guide rather than correct, we’re teaching something far more powerful than behaviour… we’re teaching emotional safety.

Apparently this is what happens when you ask AI to turn the face behind Chatterbox DramaPlay™ into a dramatic fashion caricature.

And honestly… it is not entirely wrong. 😂🌈

A hat full of imagination.
A red cardigan full of stories.
A heart that believes children should feel safe before they are asked to perform.

𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝘀.

Patterns in sound.

That is why clapping, chanting, marching, singing and moving to a beat are not “extra” activities in early childhood.

Flyers, idees, laaste-minute tweaks, “is dit nou mooi genoeg?” oomblikke… en natuurlik ’n bietjie kreatiewe chaos.

But somewhere in between all of that, I remembered again why I do this:

𝗕𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗯𝗼𝘅 𝗗𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘆™ 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀.

It is about helping children feel brave enough to speak, play, imagine, connect and be themselves.

𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗕𝗘𝗘 𝘆𝗼𝘂. 🐝🌸

Today is 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗕𝗲𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝘆… and I could not resist this little play on words.

My name 𝗠𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗮 actually means 𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘆𝗯𝗲𝗲 — so maybe there was always a tiny clue hidden in my name. 🐝

At 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗯𝗼𝘅 𝗗𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘆™, we believe every child has their own little buzz.

Some children buzz loudly.
Some buzz softly.
Some need time before they are ready to fly.

And that is okay.

Because childhood should not be about becoming someone else.

It should be about feeling safe enough to grow into who you already are.
